No azerite in M+ Caches

taken from 8.1 patch notes

The item contained in your Mythic Keystone weekly cache can no longer be a piece of Azerite gear.

yeah, lets remove more ways to get azerite gear…

god i cant wait for this system to get benched

Yes, and? Because now we can target what azerite pieces we want. Yeah yeah I know it’ll still take awhile but it might be the same amount of weeks you’d wait hoping for an azerite piece in your chest anyway.
Plus it gets rid of that thing that some players couldn’t wrap their heads around where their azerite reward is a lower ilevel than what they were promised for their box

And also from those patch notes:

You’ll now receive an amount of Titan Residuum in addition to your weekly item.

You can now target specific kinds of Azerite armor by earning Titan Residuum, which can be used to purchase Azerite armor from everyone’s favorite purveyor of exquisite furnishings: Thaumaturge Vashreen.

So, it’s less “they’re removing it”, and more “they’re just replacing it”. You’re still guaranteed a gear piece and AP. You just get a bonus of currency that goes towards the player’s choice of a random or specific azerite piece.

yeah, i get that its great we can now buy it for a currency, but i feel removing it from appearing in mythic cache feels like less a step forward and more a sidestep… a sidestep with dragging feet.

you just have to farm for I think it was 6 weeks

based on information from wowhead (ugh)

Mythic 10+ - estimated residuum = 55 - 83
Scrapping <340 azerite = 0
Scrapping 340 azerite = 1
Scrapping 355 azerite = 3
Scrapping 370 azerite = 12
Scrapping 385 azerite = 35

385 random azerite piece = 1250 Titan Residuum

so… its gonna to take a fair bit of time to get a random piece… let alone going for a specific piece

Specific item with item level 385 piece costs 3250 Titan Residuum

A blue post has stated that basically it’ll take 2-3 weeks to be able to buy a random azerite piece of the same level as the content you do (so I think the residuum in the chest will be quite a bit more). If I was to be getting 385 pieces every 2-3 weeks, that would be more often than I actually have been receiving azerite pieces from the weekly chest.
It’ll just be the targeted pieces that will be a “long term goal” as stated.

From what I have read about it, the initial residuum will start low and as the new raid and pvp season start they will go up, that way people can’t stockpile a ton of it for the higher gear on day 1.

Sorry, but this change is pretty awesome. Not only can we target head/shoulder/chest slots that we haven’t gotten lucky with, but we can target particular PIECES of gear if we’re so inclined.

To my poor druid who hasn’t been able to get a pair of 370+ shoulders . . . SOON.

I am glad I can’t get azerite gear in the m+ cache, I would rather have that reserved for regular gear and the azerite gear will come through currency.

if i hadent lost faith in blizz doing things proper i would agree, but i sure it will be timegated or take as long as the gear becomes invalid by : /

By those numbers, my group that casually does +4 to +6 keys once a week (mostly to get the alchemist hydrocores for cauldrons), are basically never going to see another piece of azerite unless it drops in raid or from an emissary.

By those numbers you won’t be buying any 385 pieces any time soon.

You will in a few weeks be able to purchase a 355 that has your best traits or a 370 if you chance a random that might have the traits you want or coul be a dud.

They are adding the ability to buy azerite armor in 8.1 from a merchant. Given the drop rate from the mythic+ cache, it will probably break even.
