No addons = lower raid difficulty?

Bosses already telegraph their attacks pretty well.

rip me on the three ghost puzzle on saladbar.

We have no idea at the moment aside from vague “trust us bro” comments from Ion. Likely it will either be tuned way too easy or a complete cluster @#$%!.

I 100% believe this is the truth. Ion designed the Faction Champions fight in Trial of the Crusader, the one that was universally panned by player back in WotLK due to its RNG, and complete and utter lack of consistency, and the need for a strict raid comp strat because of the randomness of the NPC’s each time you did the fight. He alos did Ryolith and admitted that fight didnt work as it was intended to and Amber Shaper, another despised fight. Ion is the classic example of the Peter principal; he keeps failing upwards and continues that trend to this day.

That one didn’t require add-ons at all though.

everyone who makes a decision you don’t agree with is a failure? ouch. i feel bad for anybody who doesn’t meet your standards!

At a certain point the players lost the toys because they overused the toys.

It’s a lesson to keep yourself in check and keep those around you from going overboard as well.

Because when we let it get to the point where lazy Blizzard has to get up and do something about it then NOBODY is gonna like what happens.

You got all of that from what I said? Some wild assumptions right there especially considering the litany of things that Ion has done that a good portion of the player base didn’t like or agree with that goes beyond what I think about this particular decision regarding addons. But please continue with your mind reading fallacies by all means.

“making people unhappy” and “failing” aren’t synonymous. people hate losing at casinos. that doesn’t mean casinos should make sure everyone wins every time

I say this as kindly as I can. Without you playing mythic raids, you can’t fully understand how impossible some of these bosses would be without assignments. The only option to keep it as difficult as it is without addons is introducing “The 21st raid member” which would be a player watching the live stream in discord and giving assignments that way (which would be even worse for the game than addons doing it).

There’s not an option in keeping the difficulty without breaking the game further.

It’s very funny because 10 years ago he was the poster child of “nintendo hire this man”.

“ghostcrawler is the worst, he has to go!!”
“gc is finally gone! now the game can get better!!”
“game is bad now, bring back ghostcrawler!!”
“yay, gc is back! now the game can get better!!”
“game is bad, gc should never have come back!!”

people here have a really tough time not blaming everything on one person. i guess it’s the same people who think elon is personally responsible for building rockets and electric cars.

You sure are bad at reading comprehension, ill give you that because you keep drawing conclusions from what I said that aren’t there. This current decision on addons is a pattern of bad decisions that all draw a straight line back to Ion. He designed several raid encounters that were received almost unanimously bad by players. In WoD he spearheaded the removal as flight as a ‘detriment to game design’ and then lied about flying not being designed for the expac and its zones only to suddenly after massive pushback and lost player retention we got flying in the zones “not designed for it” and the much-loathed pathfinder. In Legion players from alpha and beta gave massive feed back on the AP grind and the acquisition of RNG legendary drops that almost every class/spec was designed around having, In BFA again after feedback and backlash to the AP grind and borrowed power and then later the corruption powers he had to change course again to fix the mess it created, in SL we had numerous issues with systems from covenants to chore-gast where he stubbornly refused to pull the ripcord and again was the leader during a mass player exodus, and now here we are 2 months form another expac where by all metrics he has created a dumpster fire and has come out in said in his blog post that none of the things we as players need will be ready on prepatch and well we just have to deal with that.
So, the fact that you some how distilled my post as purely me thinking hes a failure because he didn’t meet my expectations when there’s a decade worth of mistakes and missteps under his leadership show how oblivious to reality you are.

You are going to get heat, but not from me. You ‘re 100% spot on IMO.

“Aspirational content” is a throwback to a novel internet, which is over a decade dead. It’s actually cringe to maintain the concept in this day and age.

From what Ion said it appears that he felt the WA type addons were solving so much of the combat problem that in order to keep the high level raids challenging they had to add what he called “puzzles”. These are probably what others call “mechanics”.

The idea is, without the combat addons the high level elite players will have to learn how to do the combat themselves. This would allow developers to cut down on the “puzzles”.

they said ‘same raid difficulty’ but it will account for less addons trivializing the experience so yes the raids will be easier compared to now but should be about the same challenge considering the lack of some addons

it’s 2025 lads video games should just be “pick the rewards you want and click a button to get them”

right. my hunch is throughput checks will increase quite a bit because that’s an easy way to add difficulty without making anything more complex.

At least from the raid attempts I’ve watched, the idea that addons “trivialize” the boss fights is laughable. Use of the word just comes across as more loaded language to try to turn the debate on emotion rather than something more solid.

Pretty much exactly this. The absolute most addons do is give assignments. Even with assignments it still requires coordination, paying attention, and following through properly. If addons truly trivialized all content, then literally everyone would be getting CE each season. Yet with these addons that “play the game for you” it’s clear that’s out of scope for the vast majority of players.

So in short, it’s instantly a bad faith argument built on a lie, smoke screening devs’ failures.

Frankly, I don’t really care what raiders are doing. But more communication can’t be a bad thing - it can even be part of the gameplay as players find the most effective means of communicating information through voice and speech macros.

P.S. We don’t really get internet gold like the Onyxia freakout and animation anymore these days.
