Ninjas still exist after 20 years

I was in a group with my wife this morning, as we do every morning. We were in Duskwood doing the Morbent Fel quest. We pulled him outside and killed all his ads, but a rogue came along and ninja’d him from us. I even asked in general chat if anyone needed him and got no response. This anti-social behavior has been allowed to continue for 20 years. Blizzard has never addressed this one major problem with the game. It is the simplest of solutions, as soon as a mob aggro’s onto you it should be tapped for you. You shouldn’t have to hit it first. I have cancelled my account and I’m done. War within just seems to unappealing, groundhog day all over again. Classic continues to be the horrible cesspool of bad behavior that has existed for 20 years. I don’t need to be frustrated and angry when playing a game, but that’s exactly what I get from WoW. There is no hope that the devs will ever change course. I hope the game continues on forever for the people who like to play it. As for me, nope, it has passed me by.

Actually this did address this… in retail. There’s no more mob tagging there. Everybody who hits the mob gets credit for the kill. It’s just that folks wanted Vanilla as it was, warts and all. There has been some changes to Classic since its release but this is something that hasn’t changed.

If I was going to put myself in the shoes of a developer working on WoW back in 2000 - 2004, I would guess that the intend here is to try to motivate people to group up and work together. This actually is behaviour that emerges a lot in Era. I’ve certainly formed many a group by just reaching out to someone and saying, “Hey, I see you’re working on the same quest, wanna share tags?” When I play retail though, nobody groups up in the world… because they don’t have to. It’s a much different experience.

The downside here though is that, as you’ve experienced, people really suck sometimes. You should have seen when Classic launched in 2019 and the servers were packed. You had one camp of people who would line up for a quest and make sure everybody got their turn, then you’d have another camp of people who would try to get ahead by any means necessary and jump the gun. While I certainly know what camp I land in, I suppose it could be considered a good thing that this game has a lot of freedom in it and doesn’t force you to play a certain way?

Anyway, I’m sorry you had a negative experience here. I would definitely encourage you to sleep on it though. There are bad eggs everywhere and this rogue (why is it always a rogue? :P) won’t be the only one you encounter. There are also really good folks everywhere and I like to think that Classic Era has a pretty cool community if you give it a chance. You might have to look a little for exactly what you want if you’re after something outside the norm, but it definitely is there!

Either way, good luck to you!

They don’t need to. People who do this kind of stuff won’t succeed in a game where they’re dependant on other people to achieve maximum success.

Honestly, if something like this infuriates you enough to cancel your account I don’t know how you expect playing a game where you interact with strangers on the internet to ever be fun. Trolls will always exist.

Ayo, over a random quest you quit lol.

That’s gotta be the weakest reason I’ve ever seen someone quit a game

Yikes… was this Cata, SoD, Vanilla Era? And what server?

I have not had experiences in this way regarding that sorta thing, but its not a surprise, people can be vile from time to time, but ill also point out that this sort of behavior is not unique to wow, or even gaming; you will find opportunistic action in RL also.

did ur wife say u were overacting over a random quest mob?
i want to hear her side of the story too lmao.

More like he was annoyed because his wife was finally into it and the rogue made them not want to play anymore.

Probably right here, she got disheartened and he flipped out and now its donezo.
