Nightborne: The Fixes We Need

All I care about is changing the racial because the current racial is bogus.

The Nightborne models won’t be great when they’re based off Night Elves rushed model.

Night Elf/Borne need drastic fixes all together.

I rolled one because I really loved Suramar and their culture and lore, but that’s just me.

My 120 Horde alt is a nightborne as well. Here she is:

I understand some of the complains. I too want to see more customization options (which I listed earlier here). But I think people exagerate a lot about the quality of the nightborne.

First, because the NPC models are actually of worse quality. Sure, their facial features are remarkable, but have you seen their facial animations? Also, their body animations are the same as the playable nightborne (both are based on night elf animations), so I don’t understand people who praise the NPC model as if it were of higher quality, because it isn’t. Sure, I’d love it Blizzard gave night elf (and by extension nightborne) animations a nice revamp.

Nightborne feel unfinished, but they are not bad. I love my nightborne mage, she looks very regal.

I feel like a lot of people who complain haven’t really tried to get used to their nightborne.

I agree. They’ve been made really well, in my opinion. I appreciate the hard work that was done to create, refine and deliver the people we fell in love with during their introduction and storyline throughout legion. I’m pleased with the result, especially since they’ve been made using existing materials, and probably not from the ground up. The npc’s are beautiful, yes. The player models are slightly different than the npc’s, in that they are more akin to our collection of 3d player models and perhaps less painterly than their npc inspirations. This is probably do to with them needing to have the breadth of facial expressions and animations required by playable characters, as opposed to the less complex/intricate (yet still beautiful) npc’s. Having their similarities to night elf models, the night born are still very unique in appearance.

One thing I have always appreciated regarding their models is that we have the option to play as a wizened, older looking elf. I love characters in books, movies, games, etc, such as Occuleth - grumpy older men, wizards and scholars who have been through a lot - and as a nightborn I can definitely include those personalities and quirks into my character, appearance and gameplay, to which I’m very thankful. It’s wonderful to have elf appearance options that can portray time-worn gentlemen or perhaps those recovering from a difficult past - such as the nightfallen-to-nightborne circumstance. I’m also incredibly fond that the models allow and very grateful that we have the possibility to choose from our gaunt nightfallen-to-prestigious nightborne characters (should you choose to create a character along that path), and the wealthy, regal, high society nightborne. The former, while now cured and healthy, will most likely always be in some state of recovery, and I’m glad the models can reflect that. You can play as someone whose been through a lot, or simply as an older elf, which I love, or simply as a noble, aristocratic suramar citizen. Excellent decision to include those options as I like being reminded where my character comes from, what they’ve endured / overcome and always looking forward to where he’s going.

I look forward to more customization of course, as I hope all the races will receive - maybe in a huge expansion feature. Race-unique animations for all races would also be entirely welcome! I would imagine the Nightborn’s animations having flare and some elegant / refined style to them, in a sense, a bit fancier - perhaps with bits of 16th-17th century French dance and etiquette inspiration incorporated into their casting animations. And possibly some fencing maneuvers or similarities to spell casts and melee abilities.

I’m very satisfied and happy with our Nightborn, and if I’d like anything as far as immediate inclusions to their kit, improvements and/or additions, it would be to have the slit eyes, as they truly encapsulate the proud, noble Nightborne as well as embody their charismatic perhaps a little snooty, passionate society. And some longer curly / twirls of white hair!

Because they’re a race that players had to earn the hard way through weeks of grind vs a core race that’s free.

After the years i spent helping you buggers and for you to go off to Horde because Tyrande asked why they could trust you? Yeah, be glad you get those little customizations. Won’t help you when i use your blood to heal me and shield me.

Stop it, get some help.

We need more customizations. All female nightborne use the same face :persevere:
Our jumping and running animations are terible.
We are different from npcs in suramar.

Bump in order to get more support.

I agree that the faces are all fairly similar and hope they get more.

I also think that they should also have glowing hair and hands like the NPCs, perhaps tie it into the tattoos or hairstyles? If they can do this with Void Elves they should be able to with Nightborne as well.

Face options that are more reminiscent of the NPC’s

More long hairstyles that are actually worth using.

Yeah I gave up. Race changed my Nightborne to a Blood Elf and deleted the character I was leveling for the armor.

The models are just too far from the NPC’s.

Moving on and waiting for Zandalari.

As much as I’d like Nightborne to be improved, with all of these layoffs and hardships happening at Blizzard, I don’t think they have the resources for it.

If they ever lax DHs to become more than NE/BE, I’ll certainly change to Nightborne

The layoffs aren’t going to affect World of Warcraft, or anything game development related across any of their games.

“At Blizzard, the layoffs appear to only have affected non-game-development departments, such as publishing and e-sports, both of which were expected to be hit hard.”

“Over the last few years, many of our non-development teams expanded to support various needs,” Blizzard president J. Allen Brack said in a note to staff around 1pm PT that was obtained by Kotaku . “Currently staffing levels on some teams are out of proportion with our current release slate. This means we need to scale down some areas of our organization. I’m sorry to share that we will be parting ways with some of our colleagues in the U.S. today. In our regional offices, we anticipate similar evaluations, subject to local requirements.”

Alright, lets hope so. I fully support making the Nightborne more like the NPCs than the Night Elves they are based off of.

I support all you said. I would LOVE more customization options for the NB especially.

I just want the male nightborne to have faces that aren’t from the grumpy raisin aesthetic.

I’d like to mention that as in life, while there may be cures, I think there will always be recovery. Our nightnorn have been through a lot, so their gaunt, slightly aged, slender physiques thoughtfully suggest this. Their past is befittingly and wonderfully reflected in their models. Their appearance offers a stark reminder of where they come from, what they’ve been through, and although cured, there may always be a bit of recovering. While they indeed are healthy now, their past allows for a unique model/appearance that holds true to their past plight. I am glad those details remain, such as a sleek stature, evidence of withered/nightfallen, and an aire of wisdom for having experienced a truly torment of psychological, emotional and physical hardship/torture. The models also allow, whether reintegrating from nightfallen or joining directly from high society Suramar, the option to play as a once-near broken elf now given a second chance at a better life, or a wealthy, aristocratic Suramar citizen, or simply an older, perhaps wiser, scholarly gentleman elf.
