Nightborne Customization Thread

And let’s not forget that Nightborne already have a red recolor on the files since they were implemented!

I really wish they gave the old heritage sets a pass to address some issues, and bring them up top the level of customization new ones have, with alternate pieces. I really wish they separated the chest from the skirt, and added a kilt version for the legs.

Also, I have been working on some Core Race/Allied Race Hair Swap concepts (Overall to bring a lot more options to the AR’s, by balancing them with their CR). I think BE rather than NE would make for a nice pairing for NB due to how close they have grown since meeting each other

I wish they add all those glorious Nightborne NPC armor as body customisations

That’s the thing! Unique hairstyles are awesome obviously, but they take a lot of development time. A Core Race/Allied Race hair swap across the board would grant so many options for all races.

So far I think the only issue would be the furry races which cannot easily swap hairstyles (beyond HMT and Tauren) And Forsaken/Goblin (although aesthetically they are IMO a good match)

They still need a tunic option also.

Agree, and of course a better variation of the boring pants and shoes to go with it.

Blizz NEEDS to give the Legion’s Allied Races a second pass at their heritage sets to put them on par with what we get today.

The fact that the Nightborn used to be Nightelves need to be a bit more obvious. Some, even most of them are probably born in Suramar during its isolation but there are elders that was fully grown adults before that. Even their faction leader is one such elder. Now she is married to a bloodelf. I guess she is into younger men rather than mature 10000+ year olds.

Anyway, I never liked the Nightborn’s ears, they look like some kind of horns. And secondarily, now when they been exposed to the outside world for a while and have had a chance to be inspired by other people some non-traditional options in the barber shop would be nice.

What are you suggesting?

I’m of the opinion that Nightborne should look less like Night Elves. Look at the physiological changes brought on to the Highborne that would become Blood Elves through the Sunwell. The Nightborne had an even longer period of isolation where their physiology was further changed by the Nightwell.

For elves with long lifespans, it probably doesn’t make a huge difference if you’re 1,000 or a 10,000 years old.

I would love this kind of hairstyle exchange, but I have a feeling the developers would inexplicably push those hairlines way back for the Nightborne or find some other way to make it look worse on them.

This tweet just revealed why I hate the way most Nightborne hairstyles look.

The user, @keyboardturn painted a scalp texture onto Valtrois and it improved the appearance of the hairstyle so much!

We really need the nightborne racials revamped is the big hitter.

Agreed wholeheartedly. I will never profess to be knowledgeable about combat/gameplay mechanics and balancing, but even from a shallow perspective, the Nightborne racials are just completely devoid of creativity, and worse, nearly useless. A snare? Mailbox summoning? Minor magic damage buff?

A race that the game describes as being unrivaled masters of arcane magic - illusions, teleportation, time magic, barriers…and that’s the best the devs can do?

I don’t remember if this was true or not, but I remember it being said that the Nightborne were originally intended to have some effect that broke stealth?

Yes it’s blatantly staring at everyone how they need new racial abilities and tunement. Myself and others included suggested giving nightborne shadowmeld to quickly bandage the issue.
Or I even suggested whole heartedly an ability (call it what you may). Dissipate: Become intangible arcane energy causing all direct attacks to go through the nightborne for 4 seconds. Also clears the nightborne of all ailments.

Blizz really did the Nightbornes dirty. Nothing about the playable model was up to par with the NPCs. The hair styles are mostly meh, and they all have thin and receding hairlines. At the very least, remove the chin decorations from the heritage armour. That’s so lazy considering the chin decors are not customisable. I wasn’t exactly loving the headdress of the heritage armour either. Like what the heck was that compared to what the NPCs were wearing. LMAO

  1. They could add those NPC armor sets as barberhop options for Nightborne

  2. Male faces need an overhaul

Both of these are proven possible by the coming of the Dracthyr Visages

Everything about the Nightborne on release and even recently with patch 9.1.5 character customization additions, screams rush job.

I’m of the opinion every race is due for a model update similar to the one that happened during the Warlords of Draenor expansion with revisions to existing options that improve their appearance.

I feel like that would be a lot more work than they’re willing to put in.

I didn’t realize how ugly I really was til now.

At least comparatively.

While it might be too late for you, I’m fighting for a world where another male Nightborne doesn’t have to be born as ugly as you are, comparatively, of course.

I agree that customization is terrible with NB. They should also fix the racial to add damage to more than just spell damage, so that warriors, hunters, and rogues don’t feel cheated.

In addition to the stuff in the OP I’d add this: All the other Elves have multiple different options for ears. It would be nice if the Nightborne could too.

I’ll probably get some judgement saying this-
Nightborne were by far the race I was most excited to unlock and play when they were made available. I LOVED their storyline, Suramar, their raids- all of it.
With that being said, Nightborne have a seemingly wide (but bland) array of customization, because none of it is in-depth or helps one stand out- they’re like Blood Elves, but where Blood Elves have the same 10 faces to choose from with little to no variation, NB atleast have different faces but only one or two look decent enough and the others are “older” looking but not attractive. Most NB faces look like a nearly dried fruit.

NB hairstyles are very thin and receding because of how their faces were designed. Their foreheads slump back so they need fuller hairstyles with hairlines closer to their brow.

Another issue with NB is their heritage armor- I had really hoped we would get something closer to what First Arcanist Thalyssra wears, revealed legs and all- with a male variant being just as revealing. Yet, instead we got a robe and a pharaoh chin that we can’t opt out from as well as a belt that doesn’t even fit on their model properly. You can just wear their pants without the robe, but then it’s just a skin tight suit without all of the bells and whistles NB armor has. I prefer the bells and whistles.

NB also have no real themed armorsets or outfits to choose from(outside of heritage armor) if they wanted to branch away from using their Heritage armor while still maintaining the NB aesthetic.
-NB NPCs have floating rune armor on their limbs and have some of the coolest looks imo- and it’s a shame to see the playable version of the race given what feels like an afterthought of that.

In the future, if they are given more options I’d hope to see-
-Attractive faces that don’t look like a dried raisin.
-Ear length and type customization (how Night Elves can choose feral/ short/ etc)
-Fuller hairstyles with lower hairlines to combat the receding hair issue. Female NB Hairstyles similar to the female Kul Tirans for reference. (The male NB hairs are much better than the female NB hairs, but could probably still use some love)
-More outfits and armors that all players can wear but are Nightborne themed. Floating rune armor that is as revealing as Night Elf heritage armor. (I remember seeing NE heritage armor and wondering why NB didn’t get something like NE hertiage? Just glowy runes instead)
-First Arcanist Thalyssra’s outfit made available- hood with hairstyle and all.
Just look up Nightborne NPCs and upon seen the more variety of armor they have to then compare to what the playable version got, is really lame.

with all of that being said, I do appreciate the devs that did go back to add more options to the NB. They still need some proper TLC as it stands though
