I’ve seen a few night-time addons, but they all do the same thing by adjusting the contrast so the screen is darker. This doesn’t make it seem like night-time because all the lights, torches, and fires are dimmed too instead of shining bright in the dark.
Anyone know of a night-time addon that legit works?
It kinda boggles the mind that Blizzard won’t just add an options toggle to enable the inky black potion effect. Why should I have to carry around a stack of potions just to have an actual day/night cycle in my game?
Just in case you actually haven’t heard of the Inky Black Potion, OP:
It does exactly what you’re wanting - makes the outdoor surrounding areas darker, but leaves lighting elements at their current levels. It makes areas like the Darkmoon Faire look really cool. Cheap, lasts for an hour at a time, and no cooldown. You can have it on continuously for not much of a goldsink.
The two things i don’t like about inky black potions are that they overwrite the skybox with the same starry sky (some night skyboxes are just fantastic) and that I have to manually apply an immersion effect, which is itself not immersive.
Friendly remember that Inky Black Potion is a cop out easymode response from Blizzard. It’s something at least but it’s not at all the same as proper nights.
I didn’t want to wait till the Darkmoon Faire so I bought one Inky Black Potion on the AH for 200g just to try it. This is amazing! Zuldazar and Dazar’alor look incredible right now. I can’t wait to go see more zones.
Exactly this. The thing that gets me about this potion is that, in addition to the increased darkness, the lighting is much improved around things like street lamps and fires. They’ve proven that they have the technology to make much better-looking nights. And they don’t do it.
I played Asheron’s Call back in 1999. And by today’s standards that game looked absolutely primitive. But I would say it’s night time was better than current WoW’s.
