Not gonna lie, I have always hated that they did that. Having it be rumor at best that Elves and Trolls were related was good enough, but coming out and going “Yeah, Elves evolved from Trolls” just kinda ruined a bit of that lore for me.
Blizzard has a habit of making everything too closely related, and this is just one aspect of that.
