It feels sort of strange/out of place that Night Elves can be Warlocks.
Is there a lore reasoning for this?
Don’t Night Elves have some kind of history with Demons or something? It makes even less sense than Night Elf mages

tbh night elf monk feels weird, I’ve never seen one before until today.
Nope. The reasoning is it’s 2023 and anybody can be anything they want.
2023… people play the race for the racials and looks, not lore.
in pvp for instance, not being able to be a night elf forces you to not have one of the best racials in game.
about time they opened up all the options lately.
Option 1: Shendrelar Highborne Mage who after 10 thousand years of eating demon juice you kinda liked it and practices warlock arts in secret as a Highborne
Option 2: Illidari Sorcerer who does not want to keep doing acrobatics and just wants to summon and bind demons, prepare the demon tattoos and the ink, and run investigations and Intel
Option 3: coming in the next patch, a Druid of the Flame who liked making things blow up (Druids of the Flame are gonna be a friendly rep faction)
Option 4: Undead Druidic Nelf or Highborne Nelf raised by Sylvanas and now is intrinsically tied to death and shadow
Look, wrote all of that in five minutes off the top of my head
Creativity isn’t hard people
Although I was definitely down for more warlock options I felt some just should’ve stayed excluded. (Looking at you pandas, Mag’hars & lightforged)
I’ve made peace with it with the same mindset of Demon Hunters. You’re using the weapons of the enemy against them.
So don’t play one.
Yes, that story is still present and shouldn’t be a deterrence of what is or isn’t a warlock.
A warlock is already an outcast of society as it is, so it’s less about night elven society being welcoming to Warlocks, but rather warlocks adding more outcasts to their ranks.
I rationalize it as: most of the races and core classes have been working side by side in game for years now. It’s natural for some races to take an interest in something they did not originate at some point. There’s actually an old precedent for this phenomenon in the form of dwarf paladins.
It still makes more sense than draenei warlocks.
I mean void elf’s are supposed to be a literal handful like maybe a docen. That don’t stop us from having hundreds of em running around. Why would a race that has dealt with demons in one way or another for over ten thousand years not learn to control em too?
Tauren rogue anyone?
The goofiest thing about something like this is assuming an entire race would exclude practicing something ‘just cause’. Take a NE with some angst with an interest to fel magic and boom, a warlock.
Every class race combination makes sense this far in lore. Our characters are no longer unknown adventurers but special storyline characters. Once we became the illustrious maw walker all bets were off the table.
The player character is THAT unique player. The night elf warlock who went from lurking in the shadows to rising through the ranks and being accepted as time gone by. The manari eredar who perhaps felt aligning with kiljaedan was a mistake. A pandaren mage who decided to study more on fel magic during the legions invasion. Stories like this could be applied to all race/class combos these days.
There’s no need for those restrictions anymore. We are too unique to not be special. Even if it disobeys the old order of the lore. Times have changed.
NE warlocks are illidari who saw bob rip his own eyes and said “you know what bob?, good luck with that edgy thing, i gonna dress mr impcletus with a smokin”.
because dh are way too edgy so you better support their masochistic cause by summoning and binding demons, later you discovered, “man if i can do this why in elune must i rip my eyes!”.
Not true at all. Many people resonate with the lore behind a race.
They need to make racials accessable by all and call it a day. And then they can tweak the tooltip and/or animation to match the race’s aesthetic.
This. Lightforged being Warlocks makes absolutely no sense…UNLESS they significantly expanded the customization options…which they should ABSOLUTELY do.
Lightforged = Light variants ala Golden Nathrezim Boi
Pandas = Sha variants
with the new chain line quests for velen in the next patch i bet they got a naaru, and found some ol eredar wanted to be purged by the light however the mfs are kind fel touched for life so the only way they can support their cause is by bending demon’s and force them to serve the light.
because force demons will under the light its something they would totally do OR their kink for slaying demons got them so high in lewdness that they embraced being warlocks just to have demons under their will.
Exactly. I resonate with my new Night Elf warlock.
