People think game piracy is like downloading music from Limewire during the 90s. It’s not. These days the majority of piracy comes from teams that do the work for the love of the challenge of being the first team to break through the protections that are placed on games to prevent piracy. They’re not interested in trying to infiltrate networks or plant viruses, because doing that damages their reputation.
This has been proven because when CDPR released the Witcher 3 on Steam (which had Steam DRM to prevent pirates from playing it) and then released a DRM free version on GOG, it was the Steam version that was popping up on the big pirate websites, not the GOG version. That came later after the Steam version was already cracked.
I pre-ordered the Deluxe edition a long while ago. People not wanting to play on the basis of JK are grown children who aren’t in control of their emotions and/or spend way too much time on Twitter and Reddit.
J.K Rowling never hunted down or defamed anyone. She made some comments about issues that a whole lot of people agreed with and a whole lot of people disagreed with. That’s how public debate works. Unfortunately we now live in a world where public debate can’t really happen because people are so thin skinned these days that they take disagreement as a personal attack. They can all go get bent as far as I’m concerned.
Well there are the “im gonna own the libs” people on one side and there are the “if you buy this game you’re a transphobe” on the other. Let’s not pretend that only one side is unreasonable here.
Game like this would be a lot more interesting if I could adventure with a few friends. I’m sure the story is going to great, but I’m over paying $60 for what might be 15-20 hours of campaign.
It’s not being a ‘grown child’ to recognize that giving money to a transphobe, who even the cast of the Harry Potter movies have rallied against, is a bad thing.
It’s not that the game is bad, looks bad etc. It looks great. I actually want to play it.
But I refuse to give J.K Rowling a cent of my money, because giving money to someone who deeply opposes the transgender community, which includes two people I consider friends, is a betrayal of that community.
So this is another one of those “bathroom issues?” Geez, how horrible that battered women will only have to deal with other women. What is this world coming to?
