Next Windows update will change File Explorer icons

This is what to expect in the next update

Vs what we have now

Thoughts? Personally I dislike it because the manilla folder has always been the iconic throughout all Windows operating systems

I like it - as much as I’m usually a stickler for tradition, it’s 2021.

Looks good to me. The little bits of depth, variety in color, and shading are nice touches.

Also, I’ve never been a fan of the “folder standing on its edge” icons that Windows has used since Vista. Nice to see a return to more traditional “folder laying on a surface” look that’s been employed by most operating systems since forever.

Tbh, as much i like the classic design, the new design is slightly useful. You have it sitting on the edge and it’s open juuuuuuuuuust enough :pinching_hand: for you to notice that it’s a folder different from the other folders. Like with a video folder, you will see videos in there just poking out. Or Pics just poking out, and etc. It just gives a better visual difference between the folders without opening them.

Granted, there’s renaming them and setting icons for folders too…

…But i think this should still exist as an option for those who liked the vista folders. Same way i felt with the Pre Windows 8 Start menu, or Window 95’s screensaver mazes.

Yeah that’s fair. The feature was never that useful for me because most of my stuff is organized around projects/subjects rather than file type, so the bits “peeking out” were more often than not just extra visual noise. Wasn’t enough be distracting or anything, but yeah.

Do the new icons not instead just have the file types on the front of the folders?
