As per Icy Veins (I can’t put the link here, sorry), it seem the next patch is going to be the most delayed one in the history of WOW.
Well, given that Blizzard has been firing a lot of people, and seems to be missing deadlines because of, maybe, Covid, they should get some people there to help the speed up the process.
I think that people like me, who paid full price for the expansion and pays (paid, in my case) a monthly fee, should be treated better. The game has been bad for a while now, there are things that can’t continue being the way they are. Lack of content, bad quality on a lot of graphic stuff, lore is terrible nowadays, really really annoying things to do over and over (I hate that tea party thing, I hate it), and Blizzard is doing nothing about it. I really felt like I was being conned a few months ago, so I quitted the game.
There’s a place in my heart for Warcraft. I played since Warcraft 3 came out. I have a lot of good memories in these games, and that makes it difficult to not try go to back to Azeroth, but I always remind myself that Blizzard has grown greedy, and would rather have people working on buyable mounts, pets and other useless stuff (that are quite pricey, btw), than working on the core of the game. Knowing that the company I’m paying knows the quality of the product it’s selling, and not doing anything about it because it can continue to juice it, makes me furious.
I really hope the people who created this great game, and left, create another one, so I can leave this one behind and not come back ever again.
Paradoxically, at this point, the only thing a hiring spree to work on Shadowlands is likely to accomplish is to make everything take longer and come out worse.
I’ve learned the hard way that, if a WoW expansion starts out bad, the chances of it getting better over its lifespan are basically zero, so it’s a better bet to just take the L and go play FFXIV instead.
I know that the disenfranchisement with Blizzard has been a slow burn but people keep saying “all these bad things can’t continue” and I just have to be the grim reminder that as long as WoW is making even just enough money off of complacent consumers, they will continue to be this bad.
The most delayed, AND the least amount to show for in the long run. The sheer amount of time and the least amount of content to actually merit such a delay. Even ESO and FFXIV launched more content with similar, if not worse Covid restrictions in the amount of time we’ve waited.
I too, love this game and invested a lot of time. But I cannot reasonably justify this. And I’m not interested in more Maw content when the Maw proved to be the most boring, and uninteresting zone. With even less to show for.
I realized I was over the Maw one day when I jumped in and noted that if you angle your camera straight down as you’re falling, it resembles the swirling water in a toilet bowl.
Of course, then it quickly dawned on me that would probably make my character a piece of…and when I landed I logged out because clearly I needed to go do something else.
I don’t pay $15/month to play World of Warcraft. I pay a $15/month club membership fee to roleplay with a community I enjoy in a setting that I love.
Yeah, for me, it’s basically just paying to access roleplay, and I like WoW roleplay, so I’m willing to pay $15/month for it. If I didn’t enjoy the franchise, then this game in-and-of itself would not be enough to keep me.
It really sucks having to make this… almost moral decision between doing something I enjoy and endorsing a company whose business practices and design choices are disheartening at-best. I’m happy to pay $15/month to be in the Warcraft universe, but I hate that that money goes to Activision-Blizzard, and I wish I could disconnect the two.
EDIT: It’s like how people don’t want to support Disney, but they do wanna watch Star Wars, so they gotta make a decision between “voting with their dollar” and enjoying the content they like. “Why do -y people have to own all the stuff I like?”
The newest information has really only cemented the fact that I believe moving to FFXIV was the right choice. Nothing in these patch notes screams “we’re not listening” more than Covenant Legendaries.
We have a system that is absolutely hammered upon release and has been discussed to death for a year when it was announced. The balancing nightmare and dominance of certain Covenants should have been a red flag. 80% of elemental shamans are in Necrolord. 91% of Balance Druids are Night Fae. There’s nothing balanced about this. The meaningful choice was nonsense to begin with and turned out exactly as predicted.
So instead of reworking this sytem or easing restrictions, they are doubling down on it. Now there’s not just Covenant abilities and soulbinds, but also legendaries. Ion, when you see a house burning, do you run over and pour petrol over it to help…?
