The next time we get a hero class, can it not be something that an antagonist made?
Because that has been the narrative for all the hero classes so far.
It’s become repetitive. It was Cool with the DK, and it made sense with the DH, but it was disappointing with the Dracthyr
It’s like how the Warchief became the bad guy… Twice
We don’t have to keep doing the same narrative

Why do you feel was it OK the first two times but not the third?

My request for the next hero class is that it’s not race-locked, I enjoy having all the options on dk/monk.

Well, the entire point of a Hero class is to be something hugely important to the storyline and immensely powerful we need on our side.
So we’ll have to brainstorm on that if they do one again. What do you think they could do with a story for a new Hero class? Not necessarily so detailed we have to know what the class is, just some general ideas.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t like Hero Classes.
A Hero Class comes with a pre built backstory. That’s bad. I’d rather decide my character’s backstory myself.
I much prefer the generic base Classes that allow me to be anyone I want to be.

Hero class is just a flavor thing at this point anyway
Allied races even start off at a higher level now

Please no more classes, they have a hard enough time balancing what they’ve got on their plates already

Isn’t balancing closer than ever and the best it’s ever been right now?

It’s not so much about balancing as much as it’s about when they revamp specs or classes and run out of time, then one gets ruined and left to rot.
looks at the debacle of Shaman back in Legion
And how many times did they have to revamp specs this expansion because they ran out of time? Two? Three?

DH was added in Legion, Illidan was a very forced protagonist in Legion. The only time Illidan was fully an antagonist was in BC, and even then the Naaru were like ‘don’t kill him, he is actually really cool’

“As it would later turn out, he was not cool”
Cue failed light baptism

how about the next Hero class is some “hero” class.
The “Hero” class has access to ALL class options and basically Builds out the most unbalanced mess the cosmos has ever seen.
like, at every level or so they can select a class ability, passive or trait.
they are “Summoned” to the world *of warcraft
they come from “the real world”
they dont know if they can ever return.
perhaps the “first ones” plugged them into the world, or truck kun has been very bussy.
only thing is certain is, the “Hero” has to level up from XX level after getting some prompts from the “system”
yes. isekai plot.
yes, its only a matter of time before it happens.
yes, even the devs might not know that its only a matter of time before this becomes the only right path to $$$

I think it’s sad if the only narrative they can think of to make the hero class important to the narrative is “the villain made them”
It was a compelling hook, the first time
The second time, TBF, Illidan was less an antagonist at this point and more an anti-hero rallying others to his cause.
The third time, not only did they do “The villain made them” Story again, but they also did the “They were in stasis this whole time” just like the DH.
One of those they could have done without, like making Tyr or a Titan responsible for their creation.
At least that would have been a “hey the guys responsible for making the bad guy also made you”
Heck, they could have made the Dracthyr backstory more of an unexpected miracle that no one understood - and after failing to control them they were sealed away.
While Aberrus is where Neltharion experimented on Dracthyr to try to understand them, and even tried to replicate them. Hence the abominations.
Spitballing, but I think that leaves a whole lot more room for interesting and diverse characters amongst Dracthyr than simply “We were made in a lab to be soldiers and that’s all we knew till now.”
Which is a backstory that does not really capture the fantasy of playing a dragon, or feel fantastical at all really

Those are some good ideas.
And I agree, it’s difficult to come up with backstory for Dracthyr because of the 20,000 years in stasis.

To expand even further on the idea it could have been a twist.
Initially, we are under the impression that Neltharion or a Titan made them, but then it is revealed that they are in fact a result of the Emerald Dream/Azeroth’s dream which is why they share traits of mortals and dragons.
That would have given the Dracthyr a clear connection throughout the whole narrative to reclaim their home.
Just as DK main drive was to kill the Lich King and DH was to end the Legion
Overall a more mythical origin than the “lab lizard”

It’s not just their origins. Pretty much everything about Dracthyr and Evoker was disappointing
Lich King and Illidan have great stories to tie into. Dracthyr and Deathwing? Not so much. Especially since the Dracthyr were addons after the fact.
With Arthas we saw and fought death knights long before they were allies. Same with demon hunters, although to a lesser extent.

They should make it a pseudo-hero class tbh since like the last viable hero class is tinker and hero class as a design space doesn’t leave a ton of room for stuff like spellblades and what not.
I just want red mage at home and while I like rolling with felo’melorn on my sunfury mage alt, it’s not the same as actually being able to use the sword as anything but a stat stick.
Besides the covenant and sunreaver survivors at the start of the expansion were heavily showcased as melee mages on top of a long string of elven NPCs who fit the design space.

I bet the next hero class will have something to do with the VOID and the next one after is about the light
