Next Hero Class: Dragonsworn? (or: Why Bards, Necromancers and Tinkers Don't Work)

How would they even make 2-3 specs for a necromancer? I can’t see them feeling super inspired or new.

Liches are necromancers, they are actually the pinnacle of the necromancer class.

One more build around minions.
Another focusing on the lich.
A blood magic healing spec.

Stuff like that would work, check out the class proposal over on MMOchamp, it had some neat ideas as well.

Think it had one that was like a blight alchemist and one with various undead forms it could take on.

This is a great idea OP. I played D&D Neverwinter, they have a class called oathbound Paladin which utilizes tank and heals. They also have a race called dragonborn. Very nice to play unique to it’s kind.

I can see this in WoW. The lore is there with the aspects. The spells and racial would need to be fitting and unique.

That’s my point - why settle for Necromancer? Death Knights are Necromancers, too, as are Warlocks in the lore.

Necromancy works better in the WarCraft universe as a tool, rather than the focus, of a class.

That’s like saying priests shouldn’t be a class because paladins are a class.

To a point. Priests have a much stronger identity and history in the WarCraft universe than Necromancers do, however. Time and time again, we see Necromancy as a tool, but rarely are “Necromancers” featured. The few examples we do have are more-or-less insignificant, only becoming relevant when they reach a higher echelon of power. We already have one of those echelons playable.

Of course necromancers are rarely featured. You could count the number of death knights, monks and demon hunters in the world that appeared before they became a playable class on your hands.

Illidan was pretty notable. As was Arthas. Even Chen had his moments. Kel’thuzad is the only real Necromancer of note in the lore, and he became a Lich and spent his entire life in service of a Death Knight - Necromancers are hardly the pinnacle of those who practice Necromancy in the WarCraft universe.

They have a far stronger fantasy in Diablo… and, perhaps, that’s where they should stay.

Illidan did not have a big role in game until DH were playable, same with Arthas, same with Chen. Just saying Kel’thuzad doesn’t count because he’s a lich and served the lich king is a bit silly, so did all DKs. And the first lich king was a necromancer as well.

Your weird dragon furry class has literally no existing lore, but you keep touting that as a thing. Necromancers exist very strong in the lore, are represented a bit in the game, that’s a great starting point to grow into a class.

pulling this s%$t out of your A@$ when the game has obviously been gearing towards dark rangers / tinkers being the next class astounds me.

actually ner zhul wasn’t a necromancer, he was a shaman until the end, its just at the end he literally FORCED the elements to work for him, and started using some shadow magic in addition. He was turned into the lich king as punishment for not keeping his bargain with the legion, so he could be a useful tool for them either way rather than outright killing him.

Yeah nah, the guy whose powers involved creating the Scourge, raising and controlling uncountable numbers of undead minions, creating death knights, raising liches.

He was a shaman, not a necromancer.

did you even read anything I said? In life nerzhul was never a necromancer, it was literally a forced punishment by the legion to make him serve them one way or the other. You are basically sticking your fingers in your ears going ‘’ BLAH BLAH BLAH’’. I advise you brush up on your WoW lore, because when nerzhul’s soul was ripped out and forced into the crown, his life essentially ended and he became a tool for the legion.

Those who use Necromancy are not necessarily Necromancers, as a class designation. They might be necromancers by definition, but not Necromancers.

And? I said the first Lich King was a necromancer. Not Ner’zhul in life. I dunno what you’re telling me to brush up on lore for, you’re the one who thinks Ner’zhul, a shaman who became a warlock, was somehow the only shaman in the Horde.

If he sits in a big chair, can’t move and spends all his time controlling and raising minions with necromancy, what would you call him if not a necromancer?

i wanted too be a necromancer, before it was cool.

The Lich King.

That’s a job title, not a trade. If I’m the owner of a garage and manage the business, it doesn’t mean I’m not a mechanic.

Plus in the RPG he was specifically listed as a Necromancer.
