Hi
Does anyone have an opinion either way about these guys? Do you have a better place which will take my money for a gaming rig under $1500.00?
Thanks!

They’re a predatory company that used to be reputable, but now they absolutely prioritize profit over all else, including image.
I’ve been ripped off by them a handful of times, most recently during the GPU shortage where they pawned off incompatible/dangerous excess stock in combos in order to buy GPUs.
They also go out of their way to obfuscate the condition of the products you’re buying (new, used, refurbished, open box, etc).
I’ll still buy from them if they have the best price or have no other options, but be careful and expect the worst.
These days I buy Amazon out of the corporate overlords out of convenience more than anything else, but Best Buy and B&H are my preferred choices of smaller tech stores.
I’ve been using them for all things computers since the early 2000s without any issues. Though, it’s not to disregard bad experiences I’ve heard others have.
Micro Center is another option as well.
Others may mention buying from MFGRs who build gaming PCs, but I don’t have any experience with them.
I bought and was happy with their on time and correct product delivery.
I check the option for newegg only as well as in stock.
I also bought things from their affiliates. When newegg did not have what I wanted and received that as well.
If you know what you want. They might have it.
I only bought components and not complete systems.
I see the hidden post below mine…they seem to have a agenda.
Only buy what you want!
Read the reviews on the site.
I also bought from Tigerdirect back in 2004 for my first build.
You all must have missed the parts where they bundled GPUs with explosive PSUs and useless outdated motherboards, as the nearly sole means of purchasing.
And more recently, selling low inventory new AM5 motherboards with incompatible memory.
They won’t stop, even when they get called out on it.
My last choice for parts.
Yeah, I missed them all. I saw the entire video by Steve @ GN about the power supplies and mainly buy individual parts from preferred brands.
Not always so easy to do. At the time Newegg was pushing Gigabyte PSUs, getting a GPU on its own was nearly impossible. Just to get the opportunity to buy the GPU/PSU combo, you had to enter a lottery every day.
Myself, I ended up getting the Gigabyte 750w PSU with a 3070, an ASUS B550 Motherboard with a 3070, and an EVGA 550w with a 3060.
I didn’t need any of that stuff, but due to availability, I just accepted the loss as better than paying some rando scalper.
Yes it sucks, yes I voluntarily did it, but that’s just what it took to get into the game in those times.
I won’t forget them for that.
Heh, I remember that whole mess last year. I won the NewEgg lottery for a 3070TI for a friend of mine, but I had to get a case n’ board barebones bundle with it - MSI codex zs 3-002bus, that came with the “MSI” B550M PRO-VDH WIFI board.
Although it wasn’t needed, I did have a 3900x and spare RAM handy to drop it in there, so it wasn’t a total loss.
About the MSI in quotes - when I was trying to update the BIOS, I learned it wasn’t exactly MSI but thru another party - Maingear. The naming scheme didn’t allow the original MSI BIOS to get recognized, and I had to get the one from Maingear - thru email. Their main site doesn’t list any info about the board or firmware updates.
that sounds like a headache for sure. Guess the good news is things seem to have calmed down a bit lately with graphics cards.
I’ve been using Newegg for as long as I can remember. No major issues. Every company has turned predatory while trying to compete with amazon so… it is what it is.
I used to love Newegg, and they were my go-to for years. However, I bought two computers from them over the past two years, and ended up returning both. The first one ran great for exactly one hour - and then something up and died like it was timed to do so. All the pretty power lights were on, but that’s all they were - pretty. No amount of tinkering in the box helped at all.
The second arrived with no networking software. Literally. None. Not pre-installed, not stashed away on the HD eagerly waiting to be installed, and not in any sort of storage device. I don’t think I’ve encountered such a situation since the early nineties.
Actually, I take that back. In 2012 I worked in a place where people still believed that if a shared computer isn’t networked, it’s 100% safe from viruses. But that’s a story for another day.
Short answer - buy somewhere else if you can.
Here’s a question. I keep seeing moral and bad CS issues with newegg. I would think that Amazon is just as bad or worse. Assuming a microcenter isn’t in your town… what choice do you have?
I really can’t think of any other sites that I trust to spend 2k+ on parts and know that I’ll A: get them, and B: be able to return them if they don’t work.
“Up and died…” — I love it! From the South?
Thanks for the smile!
Amazon is absolutely worse overall in its impact to the world and society. We’re all dealing with the lesser of two evils here. The benefit of Amazon is that for the most part, you’re already forced into their ecosystem so at the very least it’s convenient. With Newegg, it’s more specific to their practices that are deliberately anti-consumer and outside of being able to get the parts you need, they don’t offer anything specific to make you choose them.
In a way, Amazon, Walmart, the big companies, are just the enemies you know.
I’ll still buy from Newegg, I just will grit my teeth while I do it.
Originally, yes, but I don’t actually have an accent. I’ve lived in the northeast U.S. far longer than anywhere else. Occasionally, though, something Southern will sneak past the goalie, especially if I’m swearing or talking trash about something, but I won’t recognize it as such unless someone points it out.
You’re welcome
…
…bless your heart (evil grin)
As long as you buy items sold and shipped by newegg there is nothing wrong with them. I built most of my PC with parts from there, just don’t buy from 3rd party sellers, which can be said about any online marketplace.
Ja, I know about that “Bless your heart” stuff! I myself am German-American (been living in Ga since 1960) and English is actually my second language, but I’ve been here so long I can pass as a “Kraut From The South”.
That was my point. Folks can say what they want about Newegg, but their competitors are far worse. You either buy from one or the other.
Also, I don’t care what anyone says, Newegg has the best search feature on any of the computer part websites to find exactly what you need.
I wouldn’t buy used/open box from anyone. Newegg with their “bundled deals!” Is a huge rip off. The gigabyte PSU should’ve been a mass recall but even gigabyte ignored it after the YouTube videos on it. Yet ppl still rush out to buy their stuff
Well it depends on how you perceive that. Amazon for the most part, while an evil corporation more damaging than Newegg, is still “easier” to buy from since most people are already in their ecosystem.
Newegg has both going against them.
As far as search features…well I suppose I am more specific in my queries so I know what I’m generally looking for, not comparing.
