Yeah, WoW isn’t going to get killed by New World. It’s likely that New World will launch, not get the player base Amazon wants for it, and then Amazon will shut it down the same way they shut down Crucible.
What, no Tera? No SWTOR? No GW2? No ESO? No DC universe? Their not even gonna get a mention?
So was Fallout 76. Yet both games have glowing reviews on Steam now.
… I see you’re taking a que from those console fanboy arguments on trashing the PC.
To quote from Eminem “Why be a king, when you can be a god?”
… Which is why WoW is a god. Because i’m convinced that WoW will never die. A literal nuclear war can happen and destroy the planet, and WoW still keeps going on.
… Yaaaaaaaaaaay… a trailer that doesn’t show any of the gameplay and just a bunch of cutscenes. i haven’t seen one of thems before… /s
Let me know when Maneater is finally coming to Steam, okay? Then i’l give you the hype you ordered.
To the people saying only WoW can kill WoW, the MMO Meridian 59 was released in 1996 and people still play it today. I’m sure there will be people who will play WoW forever but that won’t mean there’s not something as good or better out there, don’t underestimate competition.
That’s kind of the point though. People will keep playing wow forever. Even when something new comes along that cleans out most of wow, wow will keep on trucking until Blizzard turns it off. Hence “Only wow can kill wow”. Hell, people still play Runescape.
None of them did as well as WoW. Some shut down. Others have like two servers. Some they tried to launch a second time to fix stuff and they still didn’t do well.
Which ones were a success equal to WoW or more successful than WoW? Only FF that I can think of. Standards being no free to play version and still bunches of servers and players. Probably should go into monetary, as well, but I don’t check game financials. And once a game is forced.to free to play with a huge cash shop, it changes everything.
I mean, when you watch a game go from a bunch of servers down to one or two in roughly a year of its release and it’s still mostly empty, a cash shop keeping the servers running… I’m not exactly sure that’s considered a success.
So which ones are giving WoW a run for its money? I only know of one. The rest are just there and inconsequential to WoW.
I find this laughable, because I played Warhammer when it launched and it didn’t get even remotely close to toppling WoW. Because unlike Blizzard, Mythic Entertainment went and created a ton of servers when there wasn’t a demand for them. That ultimately spread the player base too thin, and when they started merging servers (which is the worst thing you can do in an MMO) they caused many of the players to desert the game entirely.
Wildstar was actually fairly decent at launch and it attracted a lot of players. Unfortunately, the content that followed was devoted to the hardcore crowd and the casual audience that keeps MMOs running packed up and left.
Rift only added the store and ‘pay to win’ elements after the majority of its playerbase had already left and the game went F2P.
The combat is completely crap. The hype is so high on this game that it will die instantly, gamers are expecting way too much and will be disappointed.
Maybe, lets just hope Blizzard looks to that past and changes their ways for the future. They intentionally added mechanics that made the game worse. The reason why WoW isn’t as popular as it used to be is because of the changes they made.
Little sad to see games go this direction. I think we have more negative examples than positive ones at this point in time, and that should be an eye opener for everyone.
Not sure if it was $40 million, but he did put in quite a bit. If I recall, he said that if the game didn’t launch, he would pay everyone back… not sure if this is still something he honors, or if that only pertained to a certain period of time for founder pack purchases…
Is he matching $1 for $1 of purchases?
Even if not, it does remain the case that the game is most certainly being funded by founder pack purchases with these really really high priced virtual items and various forms of access. Otherwise I have no idea what the money is doing
I’m just waiting for Amazon to give bonuses for also having Amazon Prime. Or have they already? I haven’t bothered to look at the game info in awhile. I wish them luck… I just feel that the Golden Age of MMOs has passed and the games coming out are getting into the genre too late to make a major splash.
New World’s lore and world just doesn’t appeal to me.
