New WoW AddOn: Where Do I Get It? (yes, that's the name of the AddOn)

It’s Winter Veil, and I wanted to make Gingerbread Cookies for Greatfather Winter. Only problem was I couldn’t remember where to get Small Eggs and Ice Cold Milk. So that got me thinking: wouldn’t it be helpful if item tooltips listed what dropped or sold specific items?

Since I’m on Christmas break, I decided to try to write an add-on to do that. Well here it is. Currently covers 60,000+ items, but I’m hoping to be close to 100% within the next week or two.

AddOn description: The addon shows extra information in tooltips showing who drops or sells an item, and what area they are in.

It’s available via Curse Forge, search for “Where Do I Get It?”.

Now the WoW Classic Era AddOn is also available via CurseForge. Search for Where Do I Get It? (Classic)

I hope folks find it useful!

Sounds useful!

Is there a way to have it integrate with TomTom to get a waypoint to the area or vendor that has the item? (kind of problematic for things the drop all over the place I guess).

That’s one of my long term goals. I hope to add support for drop pins and TomTom in the future.

In the short term, I wanted to get something out quickly so I could start getting feedback on the idea and AddOn.

Yep, that’s an interesting challenge to solve, especially for world drop items that could literally drop from anything at any time. For now it’s a problem for future me to figure out.

Downloading this when i get home! If i didnt have an exceedling large and useless knowledge of wow I’d have done the same. An interesting challenge for world drop items. Maybe an exportable(?) (copyable) link to the item on wowhead?

That could work, but I’d have to figure out a way to show a copyable link in a tooltip. Definitely have to put more thought into that one.

Hmm. Not near my computer now, but I’ll check it out when I’m back! Sounds very useful.

For the items that could drop from numerous sources, I wonder if you could just show the nearest source, or maybe just show the most recent expansions drops?

Yes, showing the closest source to your character coordinates was my original plan, however it will take some time to implement that functionality.

Short term, I wanted to get something out quickly while I’m on Christmas break so I could start getting some feedback.

Glad people are finding it useful!

This sounds really helpful, ty.
It doesn’t help that when they changed so many parts of azeroth for so many reasons there was a loss of updated guides to find things.
:hugs:

So opening up google in an internet tab was just too much i guess.

God forbid someone do something nice so that those who don’t have two monitors or would like to stay in game have something helpful, eh?

Can’t just be nice about it, huh?
