Was curious if there was any possible room for a class that was more in tune with the New England folklore of a witch. I was thinking of three specs that it could fill. Anyone can add things to this thread if you’d like. Since this is only brainstorming but I’m sure other folks can find some fun things to add. Be it spells or how the class would work in general. It’s mainly for fun unless it becomes serious and a blue likes it.
Blood- summons the powers of Ritualistic blood magic to empower the summoner with buffs to create an unstoppable and demonic force.
(I was thinking of either making this class a tank or I can make it similar to the the assist class where it can be similar to a warlock summoning things. Instead it uses things like a mages rune of power. Where you have to cast and create magic tunes in certain forms on the ground to generate blood magic. I’m thinking of a shamans totems when I envision the runes on the ground. I can see this being a split between melee tank or ranged class.
Black magic- use conjurations and incantations in order to buff the group or raid. Casts curses but also empowers allies.
(I was thinking of this being a caster that also works as a bard or group buffer. Not really a healer per se but uses buffs and debuffa to assist the raid.
White magic- user is empowered by the spiritual realm of the dead. Uses forces of the paranormal and metaphysical to be cast in the shadow realm. Player becomes poltergeist or spirit and attacks from the shadows.
(This was a tough one but I’m envisioning a transparent figure that is mainly stealthed. Most of the critical attacks are done within this stealth or “dead” zone. Aoe is one of the only ways to knock the spirit out of the dead realm and be seen. Then it becomes attackable. I was envisioning a poltergeist for this. So melee spec.
This class could fill the missing Mail class role as well. Using enchanted chain armor to protect itself.
Probably not but I’d love to see them expand the glyph system to replace cosmetic casting animations. You could feasibly replicate the general aesthetic by using a warlock’s kit as a base.
I play as a witch - that’s sort of how I see my character - I see how you would differentiate your idea of a witch from existing classes but is it enough to make a whole class around it? - as it really does sound more like a spec.
To be fair, I think the race question was in reference to the Drustvar witches. They no longer look human, twisted by the soul magic or whatever it is they use.
Hmm, perhaps if we got witches (unlikely but would be cool) they could be a hero class similar to DK and DH where they get special customization, to look more decrepit. It could make use of the blood troll and hunched, thin humans. Maybe other races too, not sure which ones though.
Witches in this game are druids. Literally worgen druids are called “witches of the harvest” the drust druids use the seax-wiccan styled witchcraft (I should know I was a seax-wiccan for 5 years) as seen in that region. If anything they should expand the druid class.
What I would like to see is a class built around using the benefits of the old gods and becoming chosen followes.
C’Thun’s Chosen: A tank using magical shields, mind manipulation, and insect minions to defend themselves.
Yogg-Saron’s Chosen: A dps barbarian warlord who uses cruelty and is empowered by the more people they kill. Often wearing saronite, whipping people with chains and boosting the team with chants.
Y’Shaarj’s Chosen: A healer who uses liquid amber to mend wounds and disrupt enemies. Often taking “gifts” to change their body to become more insectoid.
Deathknights have a green tint to their skin letting you be a human witch theme. Just have a friend follow you with the silver needle toy to reveal your witch form for rp.
