Not really sure what plague build you’re referring to…
Yes we’ll have more diseases but still no real interaction with them aside from Plaguebringer allowing Scourge Strike to speed up disease damage for 5 secs. I wouldn’t really call that a build though.

The opener rotation is still going to be hilariously long, not to mention that they just added yet another CD into our kit with Plaguebearer.

Don’t get me wrong there are some great changes in there with respect to the spec’s performance, but definitely more improvements that could be made where gameplay is concerned.

I need that talent to cause DT to buff gargoyle to be good :crossed_fingers:

They listened a lot. The Unholy changes are absolutely great.

So in a nutshell

  • Gary is buffed
  • Plaguebearer is the Chill Streak for Unholy that spreads wuunds. Quite pog
  • Ghouls go boom when they expire
  • Superstrain (Morbidity dammie amp and Plaguebearer, still not sure about the rot dammies)
  • Magus separated from Army of the Damned
  • SS/CS rots targets 150% faster for 5 seconds for each use
  • STILL NO NECROTIC PLAGUE

Interesting changes.

I’ve never been so happy to be wrong.

Edit: Read through the changes and now I’m excited. This looks way more in line with other classes and offers some fun playstyle choices.

real unfortunate, pretty sad about it tbh
Superstrain is better than nothing I guess, it does synergize well but it’s just not…exciting?

I know people are excited for festermight but I always thought it was a bit of a degen playstyle but again…better than nothing I guess.

Are the current devs just so new that they’re just not aware of the good things that the specs have had in the past?

Really hoping we’ll see some improvements to the opener at least with the next build, unless their plan is for the unholy opener to eventually take up the entire fight.

Probably, or it could be the deadline approaching has them trying to do the most with the least effort in terms of changes

However:

Buffed garg - win
Exploding ghouls - huge win imo
Dark commander talent - yes please, definite win especially its synergy with gargoyle and minions

Other points mentioned too - a couple of potential rot/strike ideas, wound spread etc… there is definitely some good stuff in this update, there’s definitely more they could do but overall good changes from the first tree.

I’m now looking forward to seeing it in action next build update and assessing further

[NYI] New Talent - Plaguebearer: Inflict disease upon your enemies spreading Festering Wounds equal to the amount currently active on your target to 8 nearby enemies (45s cooldown, 30 Runic Power).

  • This ability may not make it into the next Alpha build.

New Talent – Superstrain: Your Virulent Plague also applies Frost Fever and Blood Plague.

  • Currently grants full effectiveness for the other diseases. Tuning is always likely to change in future builds.
  • Please note: Morbidity will now also scale damage from FF and BP because of this the damage per rank has been reduced.

Besides all the other changes, these 2 alone have me so hyped!

Also "The following changes are not everything you’re going to see in the next build. "

I wonder if we will see any frost changes

I’m surprised this sentiment keeps popping up. Either the WoW community are unemployed people, self employed, or work at incredibly small companies. The DK dev(s) don’t get to unilaterally decide how DKs play, what abilities they have, their talents, etc., it comes from the top down.

Sure, there might be some leeway in implementing some aspects, but I’m sure some variant of the topic “return Necrotic plague” was mentioned and shot down, and it’s a losing battle to push for it [as a developer] when there are more likely options that could be pushed for [as a developer].

Im crazy stoked!

Pretty much sums up how I feel about the entire dk class. All 3 specs have some major pain points I’d love to see addressed eventually.

Something I’ve been asking for a while, hopefully we’ll have the points for it 'cause I don’t think it’s going to be huge dps.

Not surprising at all. Maybe if you’re inexperienced or getting micromanaged, that’d be the case. But we already know that there is one dev who is working on the DK stuff and apparently he’s pretty good at what he does.

Usually the only things that come down from high up are the broader goals and deadlines so I highly doubt that someone is sitting down with each dev and shooting down individual talent ideas, like Necrotic Plague for Unholy.

What’s more likely is that the higher ups set the expectations and then the devs have team meetings and continue to bounce ideas off one another while working on their own stuff individually.

Ultimately it’s probably going to come down to the one dev and his/her choices, as well as how much effort they want to put into reshaping the spec. Just look at the attention and scope of changes that the hunter tree is getting from its dev.

Therefore if our dev or the ones he/she is brainstorming with aren’t familiar with Unholy’s previous playstyles, it’s completely feasible that they wouldn’t go out on a limb to bring something back. Even if it’s something like NP that is still widely loved by players.

Also if our dev is reading this, please consider bringing back Necrotic Plague or some sort of disease playstyle that involves active management of our diseases. Thanks!

Seems like a large improvement.

Random thoughts:

  • Superstrain is fine, but I wish there was a bit more interest and gameplay in applying and spreading diseases. 1 button to apply 3 diseases in AoE at range is a bit silly, and the diseases simply can’t do good damage if it’s so easy to apply and spread them. Maybe bring back Plague Strike somehow, and Epidemic spreads diseases, like old blood boil, instead of Outbreak just applying them all in aoe?

  • They really just don’t want to bring Necrotic Plague back for some reason :frowning: It would be such a good way to win the hearts of the DK community.

  • Plaguebearer sounds cool. An actual way to setup for Necrotic Wounds aoe in PvP. Could be OP.

  • It’s unfortunate Army of the Damned is gated behind Army of the Dead, which is a dead talent point in PvP unless Abomination is good/mandatory.

  • Army of the Damned + Necromancer’s Bargain could be fun.

  • I still think the class tree should have more old abilities brought back + more things made baseline. Probably too late for that though.

  • I hope Soul Reaper is going to be buffed in PvP if it is supposed to compete with Abom’s Limb and Empowered Rune Weapon.

  • I really think Strangulate should be in the class tree instead of a PvP talent.

  • Control Undead staying as a talent is unfortunate. At least it’s consistent with other classes who have similarly niche abilities. Just sucks to essentially lose a “sometimes for fun” ability. Although I’m sure it’s situationally powerful in some dungeons or maybe raids.

  • Is Ebon Fever + Plaguebringer going to cause virulent plague to only last ~5 seconds in PvP? Yikes.

  • Would like to see presences return in some form. And old rune system… But, they won’t :frowning:

A couple of other long standing issues that Dragonflight doesn’t seem like it’ll address:

  • Just a reminder that some PvP talents are mandatory, and some are dead. Lots of classes suffer from this. It sucks to never be able to pick fun PvP talents like Dark Sim.

  • Death Pact continues to be useless in PvP because of dampening and healing debuffs making the healing absorb portion often larger than the heal. Simple fix: Death Pact heals for 50% max HP, but absorbs incoming healing for 60% of the amount healed for the next 15 seconds.

  • Pets will still take forever to come out of the ground when summoned.

One thing I wish they would change still is the right side of the tree. Speaking from a raiding and pvp standpoint. The first talent to grant cleave in dnd is a waste of a talent imo. (Probably good for mythic plus)
I also wish we werent forced into taking haste buff while standing in dnd in order to reach death’s echo.

Control undead should be baseline imo.
I’d love to see brittle moved the dnd talent is
The dnd one (cleave) moved some where all 3 specs can gain access to without feeling like they wasted any points (if they need it)

Or honestly, since we are lacking in baseline skills, why not make the cleave baseline? And have new talents placed there? Just from planning(what they showed us so far) I still find myself ignoring majority of the right tree even as UH.

I am also not a fan of just plane stat increases like leech str crit ect. They feel unfun and boring.

The changes so far look very promising, but the right side of the general tree still needs work.

I also am curious about any frost or blood changes.

I doubt it would happen, but I’d love to see all 3 starting skills baseline (ds chains and ghoul) and replaced with skills that every dk may consider. As blood or frost, the right side looks completely meh and I can rarely see myself taking the ghoul talent just in order to reach other talents below it.

We have a lot of skills we could bring back baseline or as new talents. Strangulation, hysteria, dark sim presences and more which all could be useful for all 3 specs.

I get that everyone is nostalgic for Necrotic Plague and other cool abilities from the past, but the Unholy theme is so cool that I really wish they would think of some new, fresh ideas to implement. Why not more summonable minions on shorter cooldowns? Why not more disease management/interaction?
