New UI thoughts

It would be terrible if existing addons would not work with the new UI changes. Keep the threat percentage default option that can be shown on the default bar, and color default threat plates for dps, healers, and tanks. Bar sizing, removing gryphons, background, exp, honor bars… All these things should be options in the default UI.

Addons should be able to style things in the game. For example a cooldown text addon needs to do everything they do today in order to be replaced, if that can not be fully realized in the default options and then usable in other addons.

A brightness and color slider for all UI and menu “frames” to give players a more personal look may be useful?

What would you like to see in the default UI?

  1. Hot Bars like we have with addons like Bartender and Dominos.
  2. Customized Unit Frames
  3. Buff/Debuff tracking that can be scaled and moved.
  4. One Bag option like Bagnon
  5. Move any UI element and have it stick.

I’d love to lose more addons if possible as long as the built in UI can be customized to my liking. Being at the whim of addon makers each patch is getting old. I

I love those ideas!

I would also add the ability to size, move, or remove the dreadful Talking Head window. A built in upgraded version of what move anything did may be an overall fix.

I mean existing addons should be able to conform to the new UI setup, I can’t imagine blizzard would straight up nuke elvui and voodoo. More than likely the creators of the popular UI addons will have access to the alpha and beta, meaning that they’ll have the full cycle to develop and adapt their addon to the new UI changes.

I expect they will, but I believe they could do more within the game to take some of the load the load off of addon development.

The deep dive specifically said people can still use addons for their UI.

I hope this will be the case. Addons pull from many aspects of the game, some that have been there for ages.

The only thing that bothers me is that the new UI reminds me too much of a mobile games UI. While i like the change of opening up the screen from the clutter we have had in the bottom of the screen and being able to move the UI around without an add on I just really hope they make more designs than the plain grey.

Something needed to be done, for sure. Saving presets which can change on the fly folds perfectly into the new talent system where we can make it exactly how we want to play in every circumstance.
I mean, Move Anything as an addon has been around for a long time. And, I think, no matter what they do; a raid leaders UI is going to be a packed and cluttered mess that only that person can read because it slowly evolved for a long time.
As to mobile games and the like, the UI won’t stay the way they show us, we’ll customize it a bunch.

Ion literally said that people can feel free to continue using UI addons. He doesn’t plan on breaking them.

Add-ons and their developers will adapt to the new UI. If they do not, well I guess those add-ons are out of date.

You’ll either have to fund addon developers or make the add-ons yourself if the ones you cannot live without are out of date.

Sorry bud, after 17 years the base UI needs an update.

Ion specifically mentioned elvui would be fine. Lmao.

I think the new UI will make a lot of Add ons obsolete and no longer needed. And I’d say almost ALL add ons will have to be updated to work with UI changes.

I will bet that Blizzard makes sure that reps from the most popular add ons are included in Alpha so they can begin to program new bones for their add ons. (DBM for instance, Maybe Silverdragon, Rarescanner,)

im old fashion i still use the old ui so im stoked.

I would hope the new UI makes addon creation easier, and for some addons it may replace them. But hopefully the additional UI options will give addon builders greater tools. Like a default KGpanels for greater customizations. Many of those old UIs were amazing, imagine tools to allow anyone to do that in a simple way.

I love the “art” of the old UI, the old Gryphons, and when I get nostalgic I use the old UI with the human Lions that were never implemented, and replacing the always show honor bar with a WA of my rage bar instead, but then realize I can’t look all the way down at the bottom at my abilities and back up at bars, so then I reinstall Dominos.

hopefully you can change that bright green hp bar to a darker green.

My thoughts are I’ll still be using elvui and the rest of my custom UI add-ons.

I agree, I personally use a WA that fits over my current HP and energy bar exactly, that are close to the center of my screen at 10% transparency and darkened default player and target frames. that starts at < 97% that is green < 80% yellow < 15% white with an audio ping at 15%, I found those colors easier for me to see over the years. Along with a flat texture so I can read the cast text easier on the default bars.
