It may just be a psychological thing but honestly… been playing this game since TBC, never used addons for my UI.
The default/base UI just gave a sense of familiarity to the game for me… no matter how much the game has changed over the years, my UI always had a way of bringing me back around to recognizing that it’s still WoW.
I had heard, apparently wrongly, that we’d be able to opt into the old UI after the update so I wasn’t too worried. When I logged on today and realized this was untrue I felt a pit in my stomach… not to be dramatic but after the game has changed so much over the years, the UI was something I could at least hold on to.
Now WoW just looks like every other MMO out there.
I love this game and am genuinely going to try and get used to this new UI, but it doesn’t feel good at all. May blame my nostalgia, but now there’s little to nothing left that is reminiscent of WoW to me in the modern day.

idk why the dragon eyeball has to be in the middle of the screen, still trying to figure out how to move it as i do misclick upon it while doing stuff

Not a great solution, but if you have bartender, you can move it.

Just put it back to the classic setting then.
edit: Just go to edit, and then classic preset.
if you are using bartender, mine did that as well. Click on bartender tab and you can move it

Thats why you people should have actually have tested it out beforehand. Too bad you didnt now it is a big shock for you now. Cant call yourselves gamers if you are unwilling to adapt.

I don’t ever try to get into Beta’s or play PTR. I haven’t pre-ordered yet tho, was waiting to try pre-patch first
I really like the new UI over the old one. 
Kind of strange for them to not have an option for using the old layout and stuff, though. I’m sure some people would prefer it.

Not a “gamer,” just someone that has genuinely enjoyed and loved World of Warcraft over the years.
I’ve accepted long ago that this game will never be how it originally was, and I have had fun and enjoyed it for what it is, I just wish we could have kept our UI at least, it was one of the last familiar things remaining in the game.
I’m not software developer, I don’t know if they have limitations preventing them form doing so, but if they’re able to I really wish and hope that they allow us to switch back to the old UI.

“classic” setting does not do what you expect it would. The only thing it does is move the character icon to the upper left. All other settings, sizes and locations are left as-is.

It does place the UI in similar spots to the classic, but it is not the classic UI. The look is still very different, I’m hoping we get an addon at some point to revert back to the classic UI personally… which is a bit ironic.
Never used addons for my UI, and now I’ll need a UI addon cause I want the original back

It shouldn’t be in the middle of your screen. It has to be an interaction with an addon. Mine is in the bottom right and I actually didn’t even notice they moved it until I was looking for it to leave the dungeon.

The Classic setting doesn’t fix the new art style and isn’t the same as the original. So that’s an issue for some. 
To add generally to this topic:
Interestingly, this new UI screwed me out of addons I’ve been using for 15 years. So I’m almost in the same boat as the OP. I can’t get back what I had with a lot of things, because addon authors aren’t updating for the new system.
