New type of content: puzzle dungeons!

The puzzle dungeon is a completely different type of content. In the puzzle dungeon, there are no trash mobs. Instead, there are puzzles and affixes. Before starting the puzzle dungeon, members can choose their affixes, but doing a puzzle dungeon with an active affix does not increase loot quality. It only offers achievements.

So, what is needed to clear puzzle dungeons? Well, for starters, most classes cannot solo the puzzle dungeon. There are multiple class specific challenges, and without the appropriate class, you can’t solve the dungeon. But, you can only take 5 classes… and there is one puzzle type for each class! This means that you need to clear the puzzle dungeon using the classes you have, and the clearing path will be different every time.

Puzzle dungeons have puzzle rooms. In a puzzle room, the dps need to keep consistent dps on the puzzle, while the classes that can solve the puzzle do so. Puzzle rooms have built in limiters. For example, a puzzle room might decrease the dps all players can do by .5% every second. This lowered dps means that the puzzle shields might come back online if the puzzle solver doesn’t solve the puzzle before the dps completely collapses.Other puzzle rooms have lava on the floor, or require non-solvers to run jars back and forth or to do some other task to enable the solver to do their job.

Puzzle dungeons also have greed rooms. A greed room has lots of treasure, but a persistent threat that will kill the players suddenly if the linger too long. An example is a slowly closing door, and once the door closes any player in the room will die, and the puzzle dungeon will be over.

Puzzle dungeons also have group solution rooms. This requires each member of the team to solve a puzzle at around the same time. Puzzles are mixed, so many times, people don’t know which puzzles need to be solved for.

Lastly, puzzle dungeons DO have bosses! But, these bosses must be tanked, and a solver must solve the puzzle for that boss to reduce its defences. Bosses may have up to 5 defenses, each one reducing slows and damage taken by 20%, and each one removable via solving the right puzzle. Puzzle are scattered all over the place in boss rooms.

So, what puzzles are there?
Paladin:You need to divine bubble past a ring of death that will kill anyone normally.

Death knight: You need to infect 5 statues with a disease

demon hunter: You need to reveal and kill 3 invisible demons.

Druid: You need to use entangling roots on the right statue

mage: You need to polymorph the right statue.

warlock: You need to use demonic gateway to get to an island in the middle of a room with an infinite abyss beneath it, and banish the statue.

Priest: You need to levitate over a pool of liquid death that will kill you if you try to enter.

Warrior: You need to charge over burning fires

Monk: You need to meditate and calm the inner turmoil of the correct statue

Shaman: You need to purge the curses from the right statue.

Rogue: You need to unlock the right chest.

You played Rift didn’t you?

Who was the puzzle guy? Some Brit called Simon I think.

The puzzles in Rift were awesome!

Chuck: “sounds interesting”
Tom: “no, blizzard will screw it up so its just too horrible to play”
Chuck: “nah…not even blizzard could mess this idea up”
Bliz: “hold my beer”

I enjoyed reading XD

I haven’t been doing dungeons for long but every single one I have been in, people just rush as quickly as they can, skip side content and sometimes wont even do every objective. How will you convince people to slow down and talk and think for a puzzle dungeon? There is a reason I tend to only do solo content.

But sir, I play WoW specifically so that I don’t have to use my brain.

I feel you, especially as Retardin. I press a few buttons, do damage, run WQs that I have to kill X or collect X. It’s an interesting life.

I do really enjoy the idea though, the default dungeon formula, especially with the speedrun that is M+ makes it quite unappealing for me.

i actually hate that theres nothing like the puzzle dungeons in rift or the jump puzzles in guild wars 2
i think wow could do somthing really cool like them

Not a fan of it as far as my competitive side go, but could see something like that happening to get a hidden cosmetic like they’ve already done. The thing becomes, is the world a better dungeon for this kind of puzzle or do you really want it to be in a specific place like a dungeon? I could see it happening, but I wouldn’t see it happening as something you do more than once basicly.

That is an interesting concept! I would like it if you could solo these puzzle dungeons.
