With the new systems, it was stated that any item we get would be added to our transmog collection regardless of our class, with the exception of tier tokens which they said would become warbound to but in our warband bank.
However, I wonder if it is working as intended.
I took my Evoker through Tomb of Sargaras and at first it looked like it was working as intended, items dropped and were saying was added to collection, then just stopped getting any alerts for it.
Upon looking at it, the 1st 2 bosses that dropped items, the items added to my collection were either Mail class specific (Hunter, shaman etc) or generic gear. HOWEVER, items that were CLASS SPECIFIC pieces did not add to my collection. On my Evoker I did NOT get any gear that dropped for Warrior, Demon hunter, Paly, etc outside of MAIL gear for other classes.
I find this strange, does CLASS SPECIFIC gear like these found in Tomb of Sargaras count as “Tokens”? Because these pieces are not warbound and show as Soulbound but did NOT add to my collection. I will have to try this more with other expansion raids but at least for Legion raids “Class specific” gear for transmog does not seem to be collecting correctly.
It’s working as intended despite extensive feedback and numerous complaints for months in beta.
Class-specific items cannot be learned by any other class. this is because of (hand waving) “class fantasy”. Yet armor tokens are Warbound so you can give them to an alt of that class and learn the mogs that way.
So apparently “class fantasy” only applies to an arbitrary subset of raids (eg Nighthold, hellfire Citadel, Vault of ARchavon, MC, BWL) yet not others. Why? Because reasons.
It’s such a weird hill to die on but it’s not an accident. It’s not a techynical limitation. It’s entirely intentional. They’ve addressed it directly and dismissed any complaints.
So (for now at least) we have this completely aribtrary disttinction that doesn’t make sense and we will have to try to explain to people basically forever.
The only thing that will change this is by flooding complaints and questions and feedback such as this.
So in other words, it is still a matter of “Luck of the Draw” that I need to bring my Paly though specific content to get the “Paly Specific” gear pieces and hoping the pieces I am missing drop… Meanwhile, those “Missing” pieces drop on every toon I bring though that content EXCEPT my Paly…
Oooo. Weird. Collectible? But not… usable? Does this imply to anyone else that they’re at least thinking about making it so if you have a shaman, you can go and collect shaman-exclusives but then use them on your hunter or evoker?
This seems kinda pointless considering this change for collecting has the BIGGEST impact in running toons though old content.
And though each expansion blizz seems to like to change how “Tier and Class specific” gear is obtained. From Specific Piece tokens that need to be redeemed for the item, to the tier pieces dropping specifically from bosses to us getting “similar looking” gear and having to use something like the catalyst to turn it into tier or getting a generic token we can trade in for any piece we want.
For “Legacy” content it really should just let us collect everything as it drops, or make “legacy” gear WARBOUND so we can put it in our warband bank to pull out on that class to earn it.
Yes they said class specific gear was an exception not just tokens.
Be careful with BoEs. I accidentally vendored two raid pieces and can’t get them back because item restoration isn’t working. I was going through in a hurry learning all of the BoEs and my druid equipped two cloth pieces and I didn’t notice it before vendoring and moving on.
I’m sure it will be eventually, but the interview makes it sound like there’s a myriad of things keeping them from being able to do that to everything right now and they’ll keep working on it over time.
That tends to happen when they are just adding in new systems every Expac with no true thought on how It will carry to new expansions or be used down the line… Look at the artifact system… doing ANY legion raids we get a TON of things for artifacts and its just JUNK at this point.
They put in new systems all the time and then when it doesn’t work as intended they put in a new system in the next Expac and don’t apply the NEW system over the OLD one. Again,
WoD - Tier Tokens had to be Traded in for Specific Pieces.
Legion / BFA - Tier just dropped from bosses
SL - Catalyst system was eventually introduced and items dropped from raids could be converted.
Dragonflight - We get gear that can be converted with Catalyst / get a generic token and buy any tier piece we don’t have.
Dragonflight and The War Within the majority of “Features” are nothing more than Overhauling old game code and systems. The sheer amount of systems still in the game that don’t get used anymore is just staggering and changing code around is bound to break a lot…
Of course, this is only the #312432412312 time Blizzard shows how clueless they are on how to do things correctly. The only thing that was exciting about this feature was to run through old content with your main and get transmogs for alts, mostly aiming tiersets being the major part in raid loot tables. But no, Blizz always finds a way to f up.
I am sorry. I have reread these comments multiple times and I’m just trying to understand. So why can’t I collect appearances from tomb of Sargeras on my Druid? Literally not one thing went into my collection.
I am so confused. I have been playing since Cata and I have been dealing with this insanity for years. What do I have to do from now on to get appearances on my characters?
In emerald nightmare it said loads of things went into the collection but when I checked there was nothing new. This can’t be what they intended. Nothing is working correctly.
I want the demon hunter looking leather gear from ToS. So does this mean I have to run my demon hunter in there every week to get it? Or are they the ones who can’t loot it. What have they done. I feel stupid.
So Blizzard launches new system that promises the world and delivers absolutely NOTHING. The pieces of gear I am missing are the ones that say “CLASS: xxx” on them as those are the hardest to get since they never drop on the class I need them on, always on other classes. How freaking annoying.
bumping this issue because I was running Nighthold and am in discontent over this, too weird of a hill to die on for making a feature like this evergreen. Where is the line drawn where we can get confirmation that old raids can be soloable (as recently done with BFA raids) but a simple class tag to an item is the limit? Why is it ok for items in Dragonflight/Shadowlands(S3), but not prior?
Again, weird hill to die on guys, not sure where the harm is from a design perspective to let players have this.
They aren’t dying on any hill. The interview said it’s a myriad of reasons, including technical. The issue is most likely the class only coding. They were able to make tier tokens Warbound. The goal is probably to make all legacy tier pieces Warbound, as well. They need time to do it, though. They said this is an ongoing feature that will add new things as they can.
