New to WoW, Story Quests Question

I’ve been playing wow for a little more than a week now on my dwarf hunter and was confused as to how to start doing story quests. I’ve really just been running around aimlessly doing side quests but I feel like I’m missing something, are there main story quests at low levels or do I have to be a certain level before I can start doing them? If so what level? I was also confused on how to start the other WoW expansions once I hit the level requirement to play them. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

There aren’t really any main story quests at low levels, it’s most just running around like you said.

There’s a “notice board” in the major cities (I forget the exact name) that sort of act as main story lines, but really they just give you quests to go to different zones. Check your Adventure Guide every now and then as well.

The call boards in the cities and the Adventure Journal give the same information, breadcrumb quests and other content that’s available at your level.

WoW has multiple storylines, and you’re already doing the story quests. They just aren’t designated as such. 1-60 zones are part of the Cataclysm timeline, so you’ll deal with the aftermath of Wrath of the Lich King events along with the attempts by Deathwing and the Twilight Cult to end the world.

Between 58-80 you can go to Outland for the Burning Crusade story and/or Northrend for the Wrath story. 80-90 is more Cataclysm as well as Pandaria, then Warlords of Draenor for 90-100, Legion for 98-110, and the most current Battle for Azeroth 110-120. You won’t be seeing everything though so the overall story before BfA can be harder to follow, but you can read up on zones and events at wow.gamepedia. com or check Nobbel87’s lore videos on youtube.

The difference with lower levels is that you aren’t going after the main antagonists, you’re just being introduced to them and cleaning up their mess. In Loch Modan for example, after you deal with local issues you stop the Twilight Cult from establishing a foothold.

That was really helpful, thanks so much!!!

You do the 17 Coldridge Valley start zone quests and then get the copter ride straight to Kharanos where you turn in the final quest from your start zone. Check the main map for the 4 quests in Kharanos. One will send you into Ironforge and then back to Kharanos. All Dun Morogh’s quests have to do with the Frostmane troll war, the troggs , and you get introduced to the Dark Iron dwarf problems. These three enemies comprise the dwarf race storyline and it continues on into Loch Modan, the next dwarf zone (50+ quests), where you will also meet new enemies in the kobolds and gnolls and meet murlocs for the first time. After Loch Modan, you’re into the Wetlands (over 60 quests) where you’ll encounter the main enemy of the world, the twilight cultists, for the first time, orcs, more dark Irons, more gnolls and way too many murlocs!.
You will find all the above mentioned enemies in most of the zones you need to quest in across the world. Trolls, troggs, orcs, murlocs and gnolls, and the top enemy for a large chunk of most of the older expansions, the twilight cult.
To learn the story thoroughly, always eavesdrop on NPC conversations! They reveal all sorts of fascination details and events.

Here’s a group of enjoyable storylines a low level dwarf can do. A dwarf can take the underground tram from Ironforge to Stormwind, then take a gryphon to Goldshire.

Pick up the quest to go to Westfall… that will lead to a nice storyline bunch of quests about Sentinel Hill, Deadmines Cavern, and Vanessa VanCleef.

When finishing up Westfall, you’ll get quests to go to Lakeshire in the Redridge mountains area to the east of Stormwind. The townsfolk are up in arms with the local town magistrate because their family members are getting attacked by knolls and the magistrate is clueless. You and a small band of heroes must try to save Lakeshire.

After the storyline quests in the Redridge mountains area, the next nearby storylines begin in the town of Darkshire in the Duskwood area. It’s a very spooky place with a couple of spooky storylines.

Afterwards, you can keep following the quests south to a hunting expedition and, eventually, the pirate town of Booty Bay, and then head back up north of Ironforge once again. :sunglasses:
