New to WoW PvP, some questions on Gladiator rank

Hey, so played WoW for a long time but just never got into PvP in the game, so much else to do just never did it. However a friend and I thought about giving it a try this season as we think the white monk transmog set you get for getting gladiator looks cool so would be fun to get and give us a new part of the game to explore.

I had a few questions though.

  1. We are just planning on playing the two of us, can you get gladiator from 2v2s or do you have to do 3v3s… ? cause queueing up with a random pug would suck (and yes I only know 1 other person that still plays this game and is good enough to actually play with)

  2. We don’t use addons other then RP addons as anything that gives me a combat advantage just feels cheap to me, won’t do it. (Played master league in MOBAs for years and I can’t shake the feeling that addons are just legal cheats) Is it still possible to get get gladiator without addons or are they just to useful that if you don’t have em the people who do will just crush you?

  3. Any of the monk roles any good in Arena PvP right now? (friend will most likely be warrior or another monk)

  4. Any other advice for someone just starting/trying out WoW PvP?

you get the elite transmog for achieving 1800 rating which is generally pretty easy

gladiator does not reward a transmog but instead rewards a mount and would probably be safely considered unobtainable for you as a day 1 pvp player

you can get the transmog from any bracket 2v2 3v3 rbg solo ; anything

gladiator (only exclusive reward tied to gladiator is the felbat mount) however is only obtainable in 3v3 and is tied to winning 50 games while above 2400 rating

you don’t need any addons to achieve 1800 (assuming that’s your actual goal and you’re confused about gladiator)

addons in wow are shortcuts to awareness that you don’t need
but without years of knowledge and experience you’ll probably find the game nearly unplayable without addons

for a long time most long time top tier players (decade long top 0.5% players) didn’t use addons and they were consistently the top of the ladder regardless
most of those people are like 35 now and it’s almost impossible to find anyone not using addons now

with that said tho
if you’re just now starting with basically no experience or history and you don’t wanna use addons i’d (conservatively) say you’re looking at probably 8,000-10,000 games this season where at least 90% of them you really pay attention and study what and why you won or lost

windwalker is very good right now esp if your goal is 1800
mw just received some pretty big buffs and is a really good choice for newer players since it’s cc is among the easiest to secure and it’s damage is very easy to do

tanks aren’t intended to be played in arena

as an inexperienced player mw can be a bit punishing defensively or just in general healing since it’s basically the only healer in the game that actually relies on casting

mw/ww and mw/warrior are both more than fine/easy to get 1800 though

under the assumption you’re a healer for some reason
but realizing now while thinking about it that you might be THAT new

you will not have a good time and likely will not succeed to even 1800(transmog) if you’re both dps in 2v2

Thx for all the information, and glad to hear I don’t need Gladiator for the transmog.
And just for clarification I am not new to the game, been playing since burning crusade first came out, just never focused on PvP as I just did PvE content and used MOBAs and other games for my PvP experiences. I main DPS but do play healer on the side when the raid group or dungeon group needs one (as you mentioned you thought I was a healer) Good to know healing and dps on the monk for PvP are both viable.

That’s the purple set, he’s strangely enough talking about the base monk set.

He’s not saying new to the game he’s more just talking about your new to the game mode.

And while you might not want to use add-ons, I would strongly suggest getting one that at least tracks CC drs.

Thanks for the info, just to clarify where the confusion on this came from why I thought you needed to get Gladiator for it is on wowhead when you go to Season 2 and select Tier Sets and look at the tier sets for each class it lists under the PvP transmogs Gladiator and Elite and shows the transmogs so I thought “Oh, you must need to get the Gladiator achievement to get that transmog” I should of looked into it further then that I guess haha but thanks for the education on that.

Yeah, if you look at all of the gear for PVP over the years the max item level ones were just called gladiator, and then honor gear was called aspirant.

But while the yellow/white one is cool, def try for the purple one too since it’s limited.

If y’all need basic pvp pointers I can definitely show y’all some if need be.

I came back to retail PvP last season and got 2200 with only details as far as addons go, just pay attention to what enemy CDs look like and play a lot of games and you’ll pick it up quickly with your background.

Seems like you’re coming from high rank mobas which I’d say requires about the same level of awareness of what’s going on as WoW arena.

That being said I never touched 3v3 and exclusively played shuffle/blitz

Edit: if you play alts and understand how other specs and classes are played it’s considerably easier to react in arena

Thx for the info, and yeah… have two (one alliance and one horde) characters for each class… little bit of an altaholic. haha, I have my addiction under control right now though… it is the later part of the seasons it gets stupid jumping around between them all.
