New to Unholy, need help with PvE rotation

I have played Enhancement Shaman, DH and Ret Paladin this expansion with various amounts of enjoyment. Truthfully DH and Ret are just too easy of a rotation, and Enhancement feels weak for the amount of effort you put in.

Unholy and the festering wounds mechanic is a lot of fun, and i am enjoying it tremendously… but holy CRAP do i have a lot of down time. Is that normal??

I stacked FW and then just scourge strike down? Use Death Coil on procs, and use pet CDs as available? I often find myself waitin 3-4 sec for the runes to come back, and then feeling bone dry again waiting for them to regen.

Could anyone provide some insight, or point me to a guide you guys trust? I really want to make unholy my main, and would love some help.

Haste haste and more haste to boost that rune recovery.

Some downtime is expected. Maybe you’re not used to any downtime at all? Haste itself doesn’t actually reduce downtime since the GCD reduction and rune regen scale at the same rate.

If you’re experiencing more downtime than normal, you are probably wasting resources. This is either capping Runic Power, or not having 3 Runes on cooldown.

My best advice would be this: do not use your runes too quickly, first take the time to check how much time left before apocalypse is ready (best used on 5 runes), check if you will need a Hearth Strike to heal yourself soon… Take your time to optimise their use, do not rush.

The only times I am experiencing obvious downtimes is when I am burning my runes super fast.

I think you mean wounds in the case of Apocalypse and death strike instead of hearth strike. Apocalypse isn’t best used at 5 wounds, 4 is fine.
