New To Tanking

Hey everyone I was wanting to ask what class do you think is a good pick to play if I wanted to do high end m+ and high end raiding if I was enjoying tanking?

Guardian Druid.

By far the simplest tank, and right now also happens to be the best.

Oy my gosh yes, but I also like Pally tanks too

Brewmaster. Since you want to do mythic + and mythic raiding. It’s the best tank overall.

This hasn’t been the case for a very long time.

As a healer I would say guardian druid for sure. By far my favourite to heal and it also happens to be verry easy to start out with so you can focus on the pathing etc instead of rotation.

I like Blood DK but have no clue how it performs in upper end content in relation to other classes. The class does have a lot to work with, if you utilize it correctly. Healers may also love or hate you depending on how practiced they are at dealing with your erratic health pool.

Blood is the other end of the spectrum: it’s the most difficult to play well.

What are you talking about. The best tanks in the raid are Prot pally and Brewmaster Monk. Literally 2 of the last 3 World First clears used a Brewmaster. No bears anywhere.

Guardian druid, prot pally are the easiest.

Choose warrior if you want a little more thought.

For experience tanking you need to learn kill orders and pacing as well as spreading threat on multiple mobs.

To learn I recommend hitting 30 or so and buying tank gear in northrend and locking your exp to get more comfortable in the role and unlock your exp when you feel ready to move on.

Any tank is viable. Try them all out and go with the one you enjoy playing.

The current meta is always changing and if you are only tanking on a toon that is the current “top ranked” one and you don’t care if the playstyle, then it’s not worth it.

He said raiding AND high-end M+.

Prot pally is garbo in M+.

Hmmm no just no …

Yes…Brewmaster is one of the best tanks in the raid, and is very good in high M+.

Hmmm yes just yes. Bear falls off a little in raids. It’s better than monk in keys but not by much. That’s why I said Brewmaster is better overall.

It doesn’t matter too much since I think every tank has timed a 25 anyway.

No it’s not…but its your story tell it how you wish
Can it be done sure, but you have to work 50% times harder for same results

Don’t listen to tier lists… they are never right.

Protection Paladins are currently in 3rd place in representation for keys +20 and up. The top Protection Paladin is 2853 io.

This is taken from your own tier list, just a paragraph above:

" 1.1.

A Final Warning

It is important to understand that this Tier list is NOT permanent and it will be due to change with upcoming changes and tunings over the course of the expansion. I have always advocated to the “bring the player, not the class” motto, meaning: value the player skill more than the class itself. This Tier list should NOT discourage you to play whatever you enjoy the most, as I have always been playing “off-meta” classes and happened to have really good results in an actual Mythic+ environment. The list will be updated as much as it requires and if something is under-performing now, it could become meta due to a hotfix as well as the opposite."

Troll spotted.

Pretty sure a large part of brew master being in raids is because of the mystic touch debuff to help with dps since there are seldom other monks in world first raids. Anyway if someone is at a level where that kind of thing matters then they won’t be asking for help on the forums they will be writing the guide that we read lol.

In my experience of healing all tanks in 9.1 (keys only I don’t raid) I would put them in this order
Druid
Paladin
Death Knight
Daylight
Earth elemental
Monk /warrior

Ok I may have exaggerated for dramatic effect but I’ve not found many good monks or warriors. Maybe its just my luck but that’s my experience. That being said as others have pointed out everyone is well able to time 25s and up so that is unlikely to the the limiting factor

Okay. So brewmaster is the best. But I’ve already said that you can run any tank you want pretty much.

OP simply asked what we think is a good pick if he wants to do high end pve content. I answered accordingly.

If you don’t want to do healer job and tank by selfhealing - play warrior.
