Hey guys I am really interested in tanking but I have heard some wild things about the hate tanks get in mythic +. The best way I could see to combat this is to know mostly everything I can about the dungeon mechanics as I can before getting into it. What is the best way to learn this? watch videos? or tank them on heroic? any advice is wanted! thank you!
Youll still get hate. Look up runs. Youtube it if u like a better visual. Do mechanics and enjoy people hating u fir every mistske
Heroics for basic dungeon layouts, mythic 0s world tours to pick up the mechanics, +2s for learning routes and getting use to cooldown planning.
Watch a video before going up in level to see if theres anything you missed since things might die to fast in 2s to get the full picture.
Maybe do some tier 11 delves with giant pulls and a dps brann if you want to practice self survivability in aoe packs.
Tank hate is overrated. Donât worry about that.
Best way to learn M+ is to do M+. If youâre concerned about going in blind, I would recommend looking at this website.
https://keystone.guru/routes/tww/season/3
This shows different routes that people use for each individual dungeon and gives you an idea of what pulls are reasonable. You donât have to follow it to the letter, vibe routing is more than viable this season, but itâs a good starting point.
You can download an addon called Mythic Dungeon Tools which will let you import those routes into the game.
thank you so much i really appreciate it!
Step 1: Make tank
Step 2: Tank
just jump in, if youâre the type that doesnât want to do it until you know how, just donât tank.
If you donât tolerate passive aggressive comments when you donât time or the occasional meltdown, just donât do m+ at all.
There is a fast way if you can remember or slower way if you have time.
Fast way is to watch dungeon guides for this season, and remember boss mechanics. Some bosses require that you kite them , some require certain position to make the fight easier.
Trash pulls boil down on your group composition and how good is the group. If the group can handle bigger pulls go for bigger pulls, but keep in mind why enemies do you pull.
For example in Ara -Kara after the second boss you donât want to pull to many caster who cast poison AOE. In coordinated groups you can, since people know when to use their ccâs without overlapping with other player ccâs, but pug group tends to react on their own which can lead to multiple cast to go off, and if healer canât keep up, or canât dispel it will lead to tough time and even a wipe.
As well if youâre pugging, people will be upset if you take different route then how meta player base has pre determined. They even created routes on some websites that you can check.
Long way to learn it is to follow the rules mentioned above, but to run M 0âs before you enter the timed ones. Itâs a good way to get a better grip on your tank spec and see how you can handle different packs and bosses. Tanks are usually blamed if they pull to much, especially certain mobs, and if they donât know boss mechanics, when to move , when to kite etc.
Pop minor cd, use aoe, use big defensive when a mob yells at you.
You are now mechanically prepared for a +10 and most of heroic raiding.
Watch videos and run toms of dungeons
By running the dungeons multiple times you will recognize what actually hurts you vs what doesnt. Videos also help with routes.
The most difficult thing to me was knowing how dangerous every mob is what to kick and where to use defensives. You will also recognize your limitations as a tank, how easy it is to hold aggro, what packs you have to be extra careful about, when can you expect people to butt pull. The nest advice is just play and run lots of dungeons.
I did 2s then 3s then 4s just like that.
You can get familiar with the dungeons first, usually by tanking normal/heroic. Then download MDT addon to learn your best path. Then hop into M0 to start familiarizing yourself with the mechanics. Then a +2, +5 etc.
here is something I posted a while back. you might find it useful
in addition to the post I just made, this is a pretty good week to jump into dungeon tanking.
with the weekly quest to complete 4 mythic dungeons, there are lots of groups running m0.
many of these players are well geared and know their stuff. that means that the runs will be quick and they can help you with pathing where needed. and boss mechanics in m0 is not that big of a deal.
and as a bonus, you can get a 704 piece of gear.
start your own group and put ânew tankâ in the title. you will get people joining.
before you start your run, remind the group that you are new and would appreciate pathing (routing) assistance, if you think you need it.
good luck and welcome to the club.
Start with follower dungeons
The first successful step in tanking group content is pressing âwâ.
I always hate the âwatch videosâ suggestions. Thatâs for school children. Besides, they arent that useful.
The best way to learn how to tank is to do it. Random dungeons will allow you to get a feel for your talents and abilities although most things will die before you see any mechanics.
Once you feel comfortable on your character, start doing m0s to learn the dungeons from a tank perspective.
Once comfortable enough with the dungeon mechanics you can start doing m+. This season is probably the hardest when it comes to routing. A lot of the dungeons require a substantial amount more count than you would get just by progressing linearly so you need to know which additional packs to pull. A good addon is mythic dungeon tools that letâs you plan your own routes or import others.
As you gear up and get better, you will naturally get a better feel for the size of the pull you can handle. Itâs very much a role where feeling will outperform whatever some person on youtube says.
Whenever playing a new spec:
Read your spell book and talents.
Read about your rotation in a guide.
Hit some target dummies until you feel comfortable.
For tanking:
Review a route or make your own in MDT
Join a +2
Adjust as needed
Target Dummies. Proving Grounds. Follower dungeons.
Great for ensuring your UI is showing you the info you need, and showing you some basic tanking situations.
so your idea is to go out with no knowledge and screw over anyone you run intoâŚsounds like a great plan, reading guide and watching some videos is a great way to get some basic knowledge and routes in. there is nothing wrong with that.
Thatâs a weird misinterpretation of what I said.
