New to rp lf help

I just started a character here to try out RP as it was suggested to me. I have total RP 3 installed. I don’t really know where to start, I’m just going to be on there leveling up a Dwarf Shaman. If anyone would like to help out with anything to help me get started, it would be greatly appreciated. My characters name is Duffbrew. My Btag is Tekneex#1820
Thanks for everyone being so awesome in the RP community :grinning:

I’ve found the Dwarven RPers here to be among the most fun and engaging RPers on the realm, and I’m sure they’ll be able to help you a ton! My first recommendation would be to fill out a first name and surname in your TRP3, as well as an OOC – maybe saying you’re new to RP and are eager to learn , even. And including a “currently” that invites walk-ups can help too, though most folks are nervous about being the one to walk-up. I wouldn’t suggest filling out a huge long “about” section unless you’re 100% certain about your character’s personality and backstory; I find my own characters really develop as I RP them, and if I’ve locked them into a backstory before I know them, it can be limiting.

Also, little things like writing in complete sentences with correct capitalization when you RP, making liberal use of /say, /em, and “RP walk” – generally if you’re walking, people will assume you’re RPing, whereas if you’re running around and jumping on tables, folks will often be less likely to think you’re up for RP unless there’s an obvious reason for it. Approach other RP-walkers when they’re on their own, they may be looking for someone to RP with. Be more judicious when approaching groups already RPing unless there’s a clear in-character reason – you don’t want to randomly interrupt a group of strangers at the Blue Recluse any more than you would a group of strangers at Starbucks. But someone sitting alone and emoting what they’re doing? Someone asking if anyone’s seen her cat? Asking folks if they’ve seen your cat! Those might be great chances to start some RP!

And welcome to Moon Guard!

Welcome to RP!

First thing when it comes to character creation is to begin to understand the lore of your race/class (if you aren’t familiar with it already) and begin to decide what sort of character you want to make.

Their backstory, personality, appearance (you don’t have to match a model…that’s the beauty of TRP profiles), strengths, weaknesses, quirks, profession, hobbies, objects of interest (book or scroll, sketchbook, instrument, weapons, medicine kit, and so on), family members, etc. Deciding where they were born and what lead them to being in their current location (and choosing which RP location you wish to be in. Dwarves have Ironforge, of course, and Stormwind is a tram ride away…SW being the primary Alliance RP hub.)

Also, I highly, highly recommend you go to youtube and look up ‘Inquisitor Aura How to roleplay in WOW’, as she’s made basic startup lore and guides for character creation for every race and class to help give you some ideas.

Once you have a basic setup for who your character is, it’s a matter of going to prime RP locations and starting some walk-up RP (best places to begin might be in SW…Cathedral Square or Mage Quarter in the Blue Recluse or Slaughtered Lamb pubs). Just decide ‘what would my character do walking into this situation?’ and go for it.

Thank you all very much! I will have a chance to check some of the stuff out, I’ve looked into some of the lore about each race. I’ve read mostly gnome stuff, but was interested in the dwarves also, after I read how they discovered the gnomes and brought them into the alliance. I will definitely watch any video on youtube, so thank you all again!
