New to RP, is WRA dead?

Please forgive my clickbait title, I’m a returning player with characters split between a horde non-RP server, MG and WRA. (For context, I’m a non RP player playing with people who were already settled on these realms but have quit) And I’m hoping to start roleplaying.

I’m VERY much a Horde guy, but everytime I log in, Org is a ghost town, there’s a few people walking around and a few people in chat but WAAAY less than I last played. MG Stormwind is still active, but I’m not interested in faction changing.

I’m thinking of using a mass transfer since they’re on sale to move all my Horde characters to an RP server but I can’t decide if it’s even worth doing, especially since I don’t have a guild/RP friends.

You could have saved it, but you didn’t.

Didn’t you get the email? We sent it three months ago.

Since it sounds like your return is recent, have you heard about Pandaria Remix?

It’s been out for a bit now, but it’s been very popular, and I know a lot of people have been playing Remix much more than Retail. It appeared to me that Silvermoon and Orgrimmar both got quieter than they’d recently been quite suddenly after Remix launched.

We are, of course, also in the midst of an end-of-expansion phase, which is often a quieter time.

WrA isn’t dead, but it’s not hopping right now. I do recommend playing here for a bit before you pay to transfer a bunch of characters, though, because it’s always a good idea to test the waters before spending money.

If you’re interested in getting into RP (welcome!!) and potentially finding a guild, I suggest joining the Wyrmrest Community Project Discord server – it’s a good place to meet people and start getting the lay of the land.

Welcome back to WoW!

For the last few years, Sylvanas kept me in a cage in The Maw and she would eat hot Cheetos and poke me in the eyes and it would hurt and burn from the hot Cheeto dust because she wouldn’t was her hands but now I’m out of the cage.

Tragic. Absolutely tragic.

You’re supposed to eat cheetos with chopsticks.

Enekie clearly works for Big Chopstick and is pushing the consumerist need for them upon us, the workers.

As Eledris said, Remix, and end of expansion lull is upon us so things aren’t as active as they usually are. WRA is still the premier Horde RP server for NA realms so if you’re interested in Horde RP this is a good home for it. Valley of Honor is where most RP happens in Org but a lot of WRA RP is guild-based and community-based and not as obvious as Stormwind walk-ups are on MG. Pay attention to some threads here that get updated occasionally!

Also I see you are posting from a Classic character. I think something not often touched upon by people is how RP servers just intrinsically feel different from the normal servers, even if you don’t RP.

WRA is similar to Classic servers (especially the original 2019 ones) in that it feels a lot more like a community, names are known, guilds are known, and (for good and bad) reputation can also matter. It is not like the big servers like Illidan or Area 52 where you are just lost in an endless sea. Trade chat also doesn’t go a billion miles a minute, if I had to compare sometimes during peak times it can be similar to Barrens chat, interpret that how you will lol

Another thing to note is that RP servers like WRA are not sharded with any other servers but other RP servers. So unless people from those other servers join a group you will not be seeing people from them around.

I would say don’t just transfer all your characters over but definitely make a character here, test the waters, look into guilds - finding a good one can really make such a difference, and see how you like it! As you said you are new to RP so if you don’t have it make sure to download the TRP3 add-on, it will really open up the server for you in a lot of ways. Even if you don’t RP right away it can be really cool just reading through everyone’s character pages!

Also RP is specifically usually found in the Valley of Honor, so you won’t find it all over the city in the same vein as like, MG Stormwind for instance.

Also also, Silvermoon’s going through a resurgence. You might find some RP there.

I’m a bit out of the loop though, I’m one of the nerds who’s focusing on remix. I have not visited Orgrimmar nor random RPed in months lol.

Speaking on my personal experience, I haven’t RP’d one bit since Remix came out. If I’m logged in, I’m farming weapon cosmetics. and leveling alts. I would say I’m maybe slightly more committed than the average player, but I don’t think I’m alone in that sense.

Rp is not dead here. Plenty on Org even if you aren’t the Org bar type. Plenty out I n the world too. Just a quick little looksie scan with trp can help ya.

It’s not dead, but some of it is undead

Joking aside (welcome to the WrA forums!), Remix and the pre-expansion lull are definitely at their peak right now, so Retail isn’t boasting its usual numbers. The more the shiny of Remix wears off and deeper into TWW beta we go, expect numbers to stabilize then climb towards August.

There is some good advice above for sure. Definitely join the WCP Discord if you’re interested in having a place where a lot of options for RP guilds and communities have been compiled for people to check out!

Also, as has been said, WRA’s RP has always been a little more guild-based. Compounded by the pre-expansion lull, I’m not surprised to hear that walk-up RP may be a little dry at the moment. Speaking for myself, as a longtime Wyrmie, I almost never do walk-up RP and you’ll rarely find me in Orgrimmar except for the monthly Horde Guild Faire (which is hosted on the last Sunday of each month and could be a great opportunity to swing by and meet a few guilds ICly and OOCly!). Outside of that, all of my RP is done with friends and guildies.

I absolutely recommend checking us out and, if you’ve a mind to lean into the “guild/community-based RP” as opposed to the bountiful field of walk-up opportunities offered by MG Stormwind, I think you’ll enjoy it!
