New To Rogue (Outlaw), I have Q's and need help and/or..am I that bad?

Toon: https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/character/us/proudmoore/haytcrime

I am using the Outlaw build listed on Icy Veins

I use Hekili as my rotation helper, it’s set for Outlaw

So first off, yes, my gear sucks, I know that, but with that in mind, am I playing correctly? -we will get to that part.

First things first - my gear is heavily Crit and Mastery, and looking at Icy Veins, it should be Crit and Vers. I didn’t intentionally pick that gear, it’s what I got. I imagine that is the largest part or most of my issue? If that is the case, is there some easier-to-get gear that would help me that I am overlooking? Right now I am looking at the Elemental gear (Raging Tempest) I can get from the Sigils and even those are specced wrong for me and it appears every Rogue spec - according to Icy anyhow. If I am stuck with the gear I have for a moment, is there a better build/spec for my gear? I am willing to change specs, but…

I am having a bit of a time dealing with the nonstop amount of buttons for Outlaw. Depending on the mobs, I will have 12 buttons to press in a given longer fight. Some of these buttons are hit consistently, and that number turns to 13 with my Vanish+Ambush macro. That goes to 14 with my Kick interrupt. I’m old, that’s sort of harder to manage :frowning:

Using the single target training dummy (31k DPS), here is what my rotation through Hekili turns out to look like at just under 3m dmg done, single target:

Pistol shot 15.9%
Dispatch 14.4%
Spiteful Stormbolt 10.9%
Melee 10.5%
Main Gauche 9.6%
Corporeal Tear 7.4%
Between the Eyes 6.9%
Sinister Strike 6.5%
Ambush 5.8%
Chill of the Depths 2.7%
Instant poison 2.3%
Ambush (twice?) 2.0%
Ghostly Strike 1.9%
Killing Spree 1.4%

in AOE (61k DPS), Blade Flurry jumps up to 56% of my damage. If you want the other details there, I can provide.

Now, I would get some crafted gear, and I can eventually, but only 42 chaos at the moment.

Am I doing this right with what I have? If not, what would any of you suggest to make my experience better? It seems when I run the lowbie keys I do, I am doing the damage I would think to do - based on just a gut feeling. Is there a better talent build within Outlaw that lessens the amount of buttons I need to press without hampering my already poor DPS? Am I even using the right two weapons? Should I switch to daggers (ahh, I would need some) and a different spec?

Any help appreciated, seriously, I can use any help you smart folks can give me.

Based on that breakdown you are playing Hidden opp build (thats why ambush is in your details twice, once is it “multistriking”).

Its nearly impossible to fix problems without logs to read, but I can tell you for sure you are underutilizing ambush. Without tier set it should be close to top damage source (when you combine both of those details sections) fighting with PS/dispatch. With 2 set it becomes top.

Make sure you are using all your audacity (ambush) procs when they happen, and when you run out of audacity procs and oppurtunity procs you utilize your other tools (vanish and shadow dance) to get them back.

Just to give you a quick outlining of what that means, vanish can be used anytime you are at 4 or less CPs with no audacity proc and 1 or less opportunity procs. This basically means, when you go Pistol shot (procs audacity) > finisher > ambush (does NOT proc opportunity) and are sitting at 4 CPs.

Shadow dance should be used anytime you have no procs at all (opportunity or audacity).

The real goal of Hidden opp builds is to be replacing as much SS with ambush as possible, as it hits way harder and gives way more CPs. To this end you want to make sure you are never wasting audacity procs and you are only pressing SS when you run out of procs and dont have the tools to get more.

Is there a way I can track the Ambush usage because hardly ever do I see Hekili tell me to use Ambush? I want to use it, I read what it does and how it should be used, and yet I hardly see it being an option through Hekili?
Or should I say - what is the best way to track when to use it that I am not seeing now?

The default game doesnt proc audacity in any function (although Hekilli should still track it assuming its up to date). I would recommend searching wago for a WA for it.

I ran LFR today and I was using Ambush quite often in the longer fights, so I think that part has been handled.
