New to game..I have a few questions

Hello Warcraft people! just started playing wow and I’m wondering a couple things, maybe you can help…

1: I wanted to start story from beginning and I’m unsure where to start.

2: I’m unsure what class I prefer damage and probably Draenei cause I think they look the coolest. I heal in another game. I started with warrior just to play around and learn how the game works. But need help deciding a class.

3: I really like professions a friend said they suck in this game but I still want to try to enjoy it and make some gold. Which are some fun ones to use?

Any other tips would be really cool. Thank you

You’re going to have to do the island and BFA that is the new starting point.

Can make a class trial of a higher level character. Lets you play around with some of the abilities might help with this.

Fun? Eng I suppose is fun. Though your friend isn’t that far off.

Don’t buy stuff off the AH while leveling. It isn’t worth it.

Also though I’m assuming your friend got you into WoW buy why start playing now?

Thanks for tips. I did have a friend that played he doesn’t anymore but said he might come back. I’ve never had a computer good enough to play it. The graphics are so good. So I’m finally trying it. Why am I to late to the show ?

I’d recommend picking herbalism and mining for your proffs because you can sell the items and get xp each time you gather

You’ll have to do BFA, just follow the storyline and you’ll be fine

You could try retribution paladin. Draeneis can play them, you get heal utility and can do damage

Or… you could start in the Draenei starting point, follow those questlines and keep going that direction, following the natural progression of the story without racing to level cap and endgame content.

If you want the actual story, follow the story.

actually you’re chosen the best race and the best class so you’re already off to a good start.

honestly just enjoy yourself Crildar, develop a love for your spec and race first before anything else

You’re not late.

I would suggest trying a Hunter (arrows) or Warlock (magic), they’re a pet class - by that I mean they have a pet that acts like a tank (it will get the mob/enemy mad at it so that they attack it and not you).

The new island intro is pretty good and shows you what to do.

I would also suggest trying some of the other classes too. You never know which will click for you.

Googled BFA I think I understand. I have to start here? I got off the island and I’m really confused on why I’m in Borlus and got put in jail. Don’t really know the characters either.

I was hoping I could start from the first wow so I can understand the story. That’s my favorite part about games. I’m confused on how to do that.

Unfortunately you can’t, the old zones aren’t available until you complete battle for azeroth at least once I think
After you’ve done that expansion Chromie Time opens up on your other characters

Or i guess maybe you could go back to the original zones but they won’t be scaled so not sure how thatll work

Blizzard really wants new players to do BFA content

At this point there is no reason not to roll new characters of different races and classes to try out at low levels. Playing at low levels will be simpler.

Stay away from Crug.

I may try to go to one of the starter zones and see if it will let me. Not really happy they are starting me out with the story almost done I’m sure I’m going to be completely lost

Wow isn’t really played super linear. You can start with your race starting zone (Azuremyst isle.) You can quest wherever you want as a new player but are locked to BFA dungeons. So start with quests in Azeroth (Kalimdor/Eastern kingdoms) and go from there if you want to do all the quests linearly for story.

Do you want a melee, or ranged dps?

Don’t buy anything on the auction house until you’re level 60. Get mining and herbalism for gold (won’t be profitable until you hit 50 and go to shadowlands) You get enough gold for riding through questing.

feel free to message me in game if you need help

I’d like to try melee and ranged both. I was told to go range cause they don’t worry about as much boss mechanics.

How would I choose my race starting area

The modern story that is still being told starts in BFA, so if you want to keep up with it I’d recommend going through that leveling process, starting with the new starter island. If you’re particularly interested in it, you could even do the daughter of the sea / war campaign sections of BFA. They’re pretty fun the first time through–especially since they are no longer gated.

That would get you pretty caught up as you enter the Shadowlands.

As for a class… That boils down to personal preference. My two favourite classes are warrior (prot) and mage. I’d recommend trying a few to find which suits you the best.

As for professions… Engineering is the most fun but alchemy is probably the most rewarding, so I’d pick between one of those and go with a suitable gathering profession based off of your choice.

Lastly, just take it slow. There’s a lot to do in the game that isn’t associated with the endgame and too many people rush to it. You’ve got eight expansions worth of content to explore and there are a lot of good stories sprinkled throughout it. Some of my personal favourites are the Fiona + Pally Pals quest chain in the eastern plaguelands, Suramar, and the majority of MoP. The WoD leveling story is also pretty fun the first time through.

Most important thing is to just have fun though!

To be 100% honest, if you really wanted the story from the beginning, including content as it was back then, start with WoW Classic (1.12 servers) and go into WoW TBC Classic (2.x servers). That gives you the best “from the beginning” experience. The current “Retail” WoW is equivalent to FF14’s ARR re-envisioning in terms of what the world is like relative to the orignal world state. So for a brand new player, I’d start with the two Classic versions and then migrate to Retail once you’ve experienced what Classic has to offer. Best in terms of continuity that way.

Note: Just be aware that what happens on Classic stays on Classic. Anything achieved or acquired in Classic or Retail does not carry over to the other. So in that respect, you’ll need to make your choice somewhat more carefully if you plan on doing one long term. Trying to do both as a fresh player is going to overwhelm you.

Here is where we’re going to fall flat giving you advice. Try them all out. As cliché as it sounds, we truthfully can’t tell you what’s best because what is best depends on the person playing. It’s entirely subjective. Try them out and come to your own conclusion as to which you prefer to play as. There are enough varieties in play styles that at least a couple class and/or spec combinations should appeal to you in the end.

None are really “fun” in the sense you’re thinking. Engineering comes closest to most “thematically fun”, but has enough drawbacks (such as item failure rates that no other profession has) that it sort of evens out in the end. What you’ll end up doing for professions is likely choosing two that compliment your preferred main the most. If you prefer a caster class/spec, tailoring is going to be the most beneficial profession for you by far. Then for your other main profession you really end up with either Engineering, Alchemy, or Enchanting to compliment your character best. Think about it - it makes zero sense to have a blacksmith on a cloth wearing class or a tailor on a plate wearing class. Ultimately what many of us, myself included, ended up doing was we had multiple characters, and did our best to make the first primary profession work best with the armor class of our character and then create at least one of each other non-armor class specific profession so that as a whole the lot of our characters would make us self sufficient. This is pretty much the same for any MMO/RPG, really.

Ranged is definitely easier to play. I suggest a pet ranged class like warlock or hunter. (but draenei can only be hunter)

When you create your character you should get an option to go to azuremyst or exiles reach. exiles is the tutorial zone.

Hmmm okay I wasn’t offered a choice I guess that’s what was talked about earlier having to finish BFA first

Also i’ve been playing for only 3 years now so i’m still pretty new compared to some people. I actually started off with Classic wow and it was very easy to catch on to and it’s much more linear/that’s the true beginning of the story/game (someone else said something similar here) it’s also a lot simpler, the live game can be a bit overwhelming with how much there is to do imo.
