New to game, do raids really lock you out to once a WEEK?

Edit #2 - Thanks to all of you who actually answered instead of posting snarky remarks. This thread is “solved” now lol

Ok so apparently because I mentioned a streamer, people are just assuming I’m the worst of the worst and making this up lol. I bought this game a week ago and just wanted to ask something. That’s really all it is

I was watching videos and after hearing this on one of Asmons vids, I had to fact check to make sure lol. Apparently you can only loot a boss from one difficulty once per week? How are we supposed to get good gear if it can take a year in theory, for example what if RNG dictates that I loot a shirt 5 times in a row instead of boots or hands?

Like I said though I’m new, if there’s another way to get good endgame stuff then I’m all for it. I’m level 10 and I’m sure that will be a long ways off, but I’d like to know all this ahead of time

I played New World for a while and it made me so angry when they started limiting dungeons per day/week to the point I left. Really hope I don’t get turned off from this game as I like it so far (not saying game is bad, just perhaps not my cup of tea)

Gonna get some of the usual bites.

Bites? What do you mean lol

There is a good deal more to the game than just raiding. If you limit yourself, you’ll limit your gear. Simple.

Mythic + dungeons are spammable and give you gear up to heroic raid level. Crafted gear can be made any time you have an available spark (about once every two weeks) and serves as decent bad luck protection. Every week you can get something from your Great Vault.

Gear comes from more places than just raid. An active player doesn’t take very long to gear up. Especially if they run with a guild who can trade them items they don’t need on raid nights.

That’s the idea bro. They want you to stay subbed as long as they can help.

don’t forget, also has profile hidden

I was including that as “advanced level forum alting”

First thing a new player does, obviously, is create an alt specifically to level 10 and decouple your achievement points from your main to hide your info.

There’s always a slight chance that someone is new. Welcome to the RNG. Rubbish, Nonsense, & Garbage

I don’t believe everything I read, but I’m still holding out on hope

Well if you played in 2007 as your post you quickly deleted said, you’re not new as you claim so they aren’t paranoid. Even in 2007 everyone and their mothers knows this is how raiding works. Thus it is a bait thread or the very least dishonest.

Dude, playing 17 years ago for a grand total of a week or two, yeah I’m practically brand new. Why is everyone here acting so hostile and calling me a baiter/dishonest, I thought the discord was bad but holy hell

It’s common for people to make alt accounts with a level 10 or other low level character to make bait threads on the forum. Because of that, people are skeptical a lot of times.

Unfortunately you’ve triggered a number of alerts that typically indicate a troll poster. That being said, I’ll take you at face value for the moment:

Yes, raid boss lockouts are once per week per difficulty for all raids from Siege of Orgrimmar (an old Mists of Pandaria raid) and later. Prior to SoO, lockouts are once per week across all difficulties. So if you run Icecrown on normal, you will not be able to run it on heroic within the same week. Yes, it is stupid that blizz did not backport the separation of difficulties to older raids.

However, all is not lost. Whilst your example about being super unlucky in RNG might have been pertinent to someone in 2004/2005, that is simply no longer the case in current wow. The advent of multiple sources of raid level gear through m+, open world, the vault, soon delves and the catalyst, means it’s fairly trivial to get all the raid gear you want. Additionally systems like the Bronze system are yet even more ways to target specific raid gear and mogs.

Asmon is not someone who really plays wow much anymore. His opinion is not as relevant as it used to be since he is simply unaware of the newer gameplay mechanics introduced. Asmon is useful for game knowledge from Shadowlands and older. But he doesn’t know much about Dragonflight and his knowledge will depreciate yet further as we move into The War Within.

For reference, I would suggest moving from Asmon to these streamers instead:

Well either way you can play multiple difficulties but locked out that boss once you kill it. This people tend to do mythic plus for repeatable content. Raids are usually best with an organized guild so that you actually have the highest chance of loot. Pugging them makes loot acquisition a lot harder.

But yes mentioning asmond in the forums will do that to anyone. Especially with a hidden profile and the things mentioned it just looks suspicious.

I just genuinely wanted to ask why this was a thing, as other games don’t lock you out from the big stuff. At least ESO and FF14 which were my mains. People here acting like I’m supposed to know this info from a decade and a half ago lol

It’s a thing as to why it is that way it’s just to keep players coming back so you can’t farm a boss all week. It’s to draw out the content. If raids were repeatable farming it wouldn’t last long.
