Hello all! So I just made my first Bear and been lvling him and I had this rolling HoT on me since I created him which is from Nature’s Guardian.

At level 35 it just stopped displaying, I have scrolling combat on self checked but now it won’t show up anymore.
What is the mechanic of Nature’s Guardian for healing? It doesn’t say anything in the tool tip about healing but it appears to be scaling with HP as I been leveling?
So I’d like to get the display working for it again where I can see the ticks and also if someone can explain these basics to me would be great.
Nature’s Guardian is the mastery for Guardian druids. It’s a two-parter; increasing both our maximum health and healing received. The Nature’s Guardian HoT you’re seeing is the increased healing received portion: if you have 4% mastery and get healed for 100, another “Nature’s Guardian” event would heal you for 4.
As for what the HoT you were seeing while walking around was, I believe that was related to natural health regen. Normally this wouldn’t trigger Nature’s Guardian, but effects which increase this natural health regen are sometimes coded oddly and are basically an invisible “heal” on you, which would then trigger their own Nature’s Guardian heal. I’m pretty sure health regen is still increased at lower levels, which would create this effect.
Natural health regen is based on a percentage of your max health, which would explain why the HoT was scaling with your HP.
In normal play at current expansion levels, where health regen is not increased, you wouldn’t be seeing Nature’s Guardian as a HoT while just running around. Mostly, you’ll see it after most heals on you as an increase to those heals, based on how much mastery you have. That said, it can be a weird mastery sometimes, proccing off of stuff that makes no sense (one of my favorites was taking damage from the lava on Argus counted as “healing taken” for some reason, and would cause Nature’s Guardian to heal you for a % of the lava damage).
Yea it was very weird, soon as I picked Guardian at level 10 I just had this rolling HoT on me in town at full health. So I thought it was a hidden mechanic that healed like Ysera’s gift and it wasn’t listed in the tool tip.
It kept getting bigger with each level and became comforting seeing a rolling HoT on me and in the combat log it said Nature’s Guardian. Then at level 35 it just stopped. When I got out of the dungeon it was just gone. So from level 10-35 every 4 secs there was a HoT from it. Very strange. On WoWhead in the comments someone else wondered why it was just healing and there was no answer.
I think at the end it was a +17 HoT every 4 secs just very weird why it was there all the time and now just gone.
Definitely makes leveling as a Tank feel weird to have this unexplained heal for your early levels then vanish.
Yea that is the weird part. I wasn’t getting healed. Just sitting in town waiting for dungeon pops and a constant HoT like Ysera’s but at full HP.
Thanks for explaining this though I just couldn’t explain it and this made the understanding of the tool tip hard since the rolling HoT wasn’t explained and then disappeared.
Is the healing received only from other players? Like will frenzy regen trigger Nature’s?
Thanks again for you explanations. I just think Blizz does some wonky things too.
Yeah, there are a lot of things that are unexplained in this game (e.g. the increased regen at lower levels; a useful anti-frustration feature for new/newly leveling players, but not hinted at anywhere), and the game definitely shows its age with some of the weird interactions between things.
It doesn’t depend on where the healing comes from, but there are some spells it just doesn’t apply to. For example, frenzied regen and ysera’s won’t trigger it (the idea is that they’re % health based, so they already benefit once from mastery, which doesn’t fully make sense for the stats but is at least the justification), whereas most healing spells, including casting something like regrowth on ourselves, will trigger it.
It is also worth noting that it does apply to most absorb shields as well (e.g. a priest casting power word: shield on you), but not in the same way as heals. Rather than having an extra heal pop up after the shield, it just adds the extra percentage to the shield itself.
Makes sense. I’m also Kultiran and now I think some other things make sense as I believe the racial passive heal is triggering it.
This is fascinating, I’m assuming things like Fleshcraft since it’s % HP absorb aren’t boosted?
I kinda wonder about the Shard of Kyr absorb and if there would be an interaction there. Well you given some great info and things to think about so I do greatly appreciate the responses
You said it stopped at level 35? I’m guessing it was your heirloom equipment. You get extra out of combat healing from the set bonus, and as has been mentioned the Nature’s Guardian can proc for ‘extra’ regeneration effects.
