I mentioned my desire tank spec for shaman in another thread. I’m not sure if a pet tanking class is reliable? Though, summon tank sounds awesome, use the Ox statue as a Totem. Earth based abilities provide shields while water based abilities provide pull or heal.

I’d like a Tank/Healer Hybrid where healing offers mitigation similar to Disc Priest etc, it’s my fave combo to play. I used to be a tank/healer in another MMO and there is little like it here in WoW.

Off healing as a tank is fun for me, I’m a healer main anyway so it comes naturally.

So my new tank idea is a Tank/Healer hybrid.

I kinda always liked the dodge tank idea, but the unreliably is a bit insane. I always thought stagger was a good idea but a strange one limiting it to one of the least popular classes in the game. IMO it would’nt hurt anymore to say let monks start at least say 60 or make the +50% exp up to pandaria a permanent instead of weekly.

Then for other tanks, i always liked the idea of well more diversity in all tank specs. With dps specs you can usually get two or three dps specs on a char and get interesting talent choices. IMO with tank specs though i think having talent choices to build your tanks and have a talent row to lets tanks choose mitigration tanks (like old prot war before damage), Heal tanks (BDKs, VDHs, maybe 1/2 holy pally), and then a choice for sacrificing mitigration for damage. (current prot warrior damage / Legion VDH)

I also wouldn’t mind some tweaks or even some generic hp scales or a new extra talent row for extra customization, such as things like say a reverse of PVP talents that only worked against non-player characters.

Etc:
Universal tank talents ideas:

Fortune of Fate: Reduce incoming damage taken by 20%, But damage by 10%, Every time you block or parry an attack, you have a small chance to reflect damage back at the enemy. You gain a ability [Warfield Devastation] that deals 10%-20% of your hp in damage to all enemies around you.

Fortune of Blood: Your attacks now leech and you gain a new ability Vampiric embrace: Which allows you to sap the life from your enemies draining and dealing extra damage and healing yourself for the same amount. in addition you also get a medium chance to sap 50k hp from a target ( 3 Ppm) healing and draining your opponent for each point done.

Fortune of Wrath: You gain +10% more damage and more 15% haste but lose 15% of your armor. In return you get Overwhelming Strength, which can grant 25 stacks for a total of 1k haste and crit which grants your healer the ability for their heals to additionally heal you based on your crit and haste rating amount. (like a monk).

+1 for a Shaman tank spec as well. In another thread, I mentioned that a lot of the abilities that can make it work are already in-game, just some needed tweaks while in tank spec:

  • Earthquake - > AoE aggro similar to consecrate, DK’s DnD, etc.

  • Rockbiter weapon imbue could turn into a passive buff for threat gen with that spec.

  • Rock shield as extra protection like DK’s bones

  • Totems as utility

I would prefer they always retune what’s already in the game, but a shaman tank, earth spec, would be pretty nice. Could work like wrath frost tank. It just feels thematically correct …4 elements , 4 specs.

Pet tank, I don’t see how it would work. It would either have you playing the pet (so how would it be different from druid?) , playing the character with a simple pet (aggro tango is very meh) or playing both a full fledged class and pet with a fully fleshed out kit, which could be cool, but the skill ceiling would be insane.

Also, would it be a ranged tank? Sort of works in swtor, don’t see it working in wow tho.

it would be you playing a caster and you own a pet that can tank. ur spells would be focused on controlling the pet so it wouldnt require much of extra management since we arent dumping whole new set of management for the pet on top of what the class is. pet’s stats and status would be based on the caster’s. imagine like a demolock with some some spells replaced to be focused around pet tanking. we would finally have a cloth tank :open_mouth:

Rogue tank, lots of dodge and mitigation. It was pretty cool in another MMO I played…

My favorite iteration is still the thorn tank of the burning crusade prot pally. Most threat was generated from holy shield and retribution aura besides seals which is basically auto attack and consecration. the more I got hit the higher my throat and I am a giddy one for thorns builds for some reason. Shield spikes where you at

The way you described it, I see a problem:

You would have to allow enough control on the pet or minion toolkit to be able to answer: uptime on mitigation, oh snap cds, potential dps CD, cc in addition to a 15 sec interrupt and threat management beyond a taunt. All that, on top of a caster spec. So you would either be effectively two boxing or the caster becomes extraneous.

sure, im not sure how we cant fit those in a class or spec. im not sure why it would need anything extra just for being a caster tho, making it apparently ‘extraneous’ it isnt like we are adding a tank on top of a dps. it would be a pure tank spec.

We don’t need a new tank. Every new class has been able to tank. All have been able to melee DPS.

Give us ranged DPS, maybe 1 healer spec.

Shamans that ride elementals

all new class has been able to dps too, doesnt mean we shouldnt be releasing another nor were they released out of necessity. if u actually read my post, you would notice im talking about a caster tank. a class also has multiple specs, it can have both 2 roles or all 3

LF cloth wearing tank

the pet would be tanking with high enuf armor tho :o

Strapped Gnome Tank

A small gnome is strapped to a wood or metal pole and is used as a meat shield to protect the rest of the group. Since Gnomes are annoying as hell, there will be no aggro problem.

The Gnome is light enough so it can be wearable by many character, even the weak clothies.

The Gnome is not willing and forced into his role so this type of tank work for both the Alliance and the Horde.

u r a godamn genius
