New Sharding/Phasing Restrictions?

i hate to say it but it looks like it IS intended - again I think another way to stop people ‘quickly’ doing WQs - should of guessed this was coming when they broke the ‘autogrouping’ addon way back in the day - now this - but I agree its an absolutely terrible change :rage:

So with this change if the quest is not solo-able then just drop the quest?

Wow, one of the most ham-fisted, anti-social and incompetent things I’ve seen from an MMO company in a long time. WTF are you thinking Blizzard ??
You do know this is an MMO right ??
So instead of making it so players can’t abuse sharding ( no idea how ) you instead want to punish legit players that just want to play an MMO with other out in the open world.
If players are on boosted toons leveling through the zone they will be unable to group with random players to do rares or hard quests they are not geared for.
And why wasn’t this common knowledge prior to the launch??
Scared players would cancel even more pre-orders??

Stupid change, simple as that.

Happening for every group world quest right now, super annoying

I don’t ever post on the forums, but yeah this might be the worst change they have done yet. I hope they revert this nonsense.

I’m just here to pile on the criticism of this change. I acknowledge that phasing needs to exist but this restriction is one of the dumbest, ham-fisted decisions I have seen in a long, long time.

This is their one size fits all solution to the problem of Ruin Gaming forming and reforming raids in place for wPvP activities.

I have no idea where you are getting your information from but I kept on getting stuck on oceanic servers (in legion) because I would join groups in group finder. I even contacted tech support about it and at first they didn’t believe and then they made me do a trace route and sure enough my character was on an oceanic server.

So yes they do pull you to that realm and still do in fact as of at least a month ago. My friend often does it to pull people over to a dead RP server for pets, etc.

And yes they have to be in THAT zone first to do that, if that was your point.

It wouldn’t make them impossible. You would just form groups in oribos first, entirely possible. Inconvenient probably, not impossible though.

This worries me. The only time my friend and I play this game is if we’re together, I hope we’re not affected by this but it sounds pretty bad. We’re in the same server as well. I guess I’ll update my message later!

This is what I am talking about: https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/4ua916/psa_how_realm_hopping_works_in_legionprepatch/

People still think even 4+ years later that you can bring someone over to your realm by just inviting people while being anywhere in the game (remember all the garrison host groups of WoD and people using them to farm rare mounts throughout the expansion?).

These changes posted on WoWHead are way too confusing for people to understand.

And yes re-reading what you said it looks like we are talking about the same thing. I am just more concerned about people not getting these changes which will potentially impact me if I have to hop to try and farm for rare spawns for mounts and stuff, cause people can’t be bothered to understand how things work.

I’m really hoping this screwed up phasing is just for launch week. Like this sucks really really bad. It is a cluster to get any people together.

If it’s because they are trying to combat wPvP exploits, I’d drop wPvP just to be able to easily group with my husband for quests. The reason we play together is so we can spend time together in the evening.

It’s annoying if we spend 15 minutes flying around to try to get phased together just to do a few quests.

Oh yes I agree you have to be in the zone and you actually have to be in the zone prior to the other person in order to pull.

That might explain why I kept on getting stuck on oceanic servers as well because just leaving the group didn’t do it for me. I had to hearth back to Dalaran (from Argus it was) to get back on my own server and even sometimes log out for 20 minutes or so. That part doesn’t seem to work like that anymore though.

It’s a meta solution that affect everybody. There’s no way to get away from it.

They changed grouping numerous times during Legion. People were upset that they would join a group and find themselves on a PvP realm. Or they would join a group on a normal realm, and when the group leader left, the realm of the entire group switched to the PvP realm of the new leader who had inherited it. There was even a time when if you joined a group that was on a PvP realm, leaving the group did not send you back to your own realm.

And then they disabled the group finder addon. We were told over and over again on the forums that Blizzard wanted everybody to solo all their quests.

The history of changes to grouping in Legion is anything but simple and straightforward.

Oceanic servers were very problematic in Legion. Form a group to kill a world boss, and you could see that half the group was in the process of wiping, while you were looking at the boss picking his nose.

Yep it’s broken. So I find myself in the position of having to kill everything myselsf. Cause you know, that’s what hero’s do. lol.

I couldn’t group up for the Ladder because we were all in different phases. I ended up having to solo it.

Most servers there is enough people around once people hit max level and start doing the world quests that grouping isn’t an issue. I only had to join groups for world bosses in BfA because almost every single elite or rare world quest there were lots of other people there also doing.

They broke the ability for addons to utilize the group finder during the bfa pre-patch (however you could still use it to a degree as a foreground search). And then with 8.1 they destroyed it even further. The only way addons can interact with the group finder is by sorting groups, which I use with something like this: https://wago.io/KtUU7No8j

This only serves to punish players trying to do quests with friends and family.

Absolutely idiot change.
