New Shaman Tank Spec: Earth Warden

Although Blizzard has been moving toward making every class exactly like every other one for a long time, I don’t support that concept. I actually would like to play a Shaman like the one I rolled, you know the Hord only class, the only class other than Druid and (Alliance only) Paladin with dps and healing, the only class in the game who could walk on water, the one who used totems …
And I would like the other classes to be truly unique as well.

I feel you pain Tomten. Let us rise up and show everyone how to tank like a boss. Uniquely… xD

None of those things is the issue here. The issue is our class SCREAMS for 4 specs. The issue is our class has many disjointed elements (pun intended) that could be cleaned up with a 4th TANK spec. The issue is after all this time of newly added classes, 3 tank specs have been added and NONE of them includes a MAIL class.

Earth Shaman (For lack of a better name) would be THE most unique tank spec in the game, hands down. Revamping our class to include this (yes, INCLUDE, not destroy one spec to create another. Shaman, more than any other class, should be 4 specs, revolving around 4 elements), would greatly enhance (again, pun intended) the class as a whole.

The name you’re looking for is Earth Warden. I agree with you 100%

@Bofur I’m all for this, however one concern I thought about was, if earthwarding or geomancy becomes a thing for a tank spec, that means that Enhancement needs to become more about Windfury and wind-related attacks. This is getting dangerously close to Windwalker monk…

Do you think that the Enhancement community would be cool with going back to 2h spec to differentiate a bit? I know there are a lot of dual wield aesthetics associated with shamans by this point in the game, but I sorely miss those old Windfury procs.

I like the idea. The Earth Warden theme would fit nicely. I think it should be a 4th spec vs re-working enhancement to achieve it. They already made that mistake when they changed old school survival hunter.

But as someone mentioned earlier, we are likely to see the Tinker class as the “mail” tank before we see a shaman tank. Sadly, I doubt we’ll ever see a shaman tank.

I would love this! Plz Plz Plz

Why do people asume Tinkers where mail and not plate? When I see Mekkatorque or imagine a tinker using tons of metal equipment, it seems silly they wouldn’t be wearing plate-equivalent gear. Save the mail for dragon knights or dark rangers!

This would be absolutely incredible. I have played shaman since TBC and everytime I park my shaman for some period of time it’s because my usual group/guild needs a tank. I have a warrior, pally, monk and dk that I play based on the FOTM tanks so we can have a consistent tank. It’d be nice if my main and favourite class could fill that role instead. All I think about is all those missing reps and achievements I’ve gained on random tank alts…

Bring back shaman rock biter threat generator! Give us a shaman tank!

Do you think Shaman tanks will be fun? Because I think I want this…

I’d cheerfully sacrifice your player account rather than screw over many people.

I’m not in favor of replacing enhance. IMO that is not an option. I love enhance/ele! These are fundamentals to the shaman identity since day one.

What exactly are Tidesages? Are they Shamans? I’d LOVE to be a kul tiran tidesage… Fit that in the suggestion somehow…

Good question. They’re like water priests I guess. I suppose if you went shaman/restoration with your thick boi, you could RP it as a tidesage. I dont really know though. Regardless you’re gonna want to make your Kul’Tiran Shaman a Tank when it becomes available.

I like my monk but I think the idea of shamans tanking is glorious

Earthwarden isn’t the only fantasy that would work, though I would love for it to be added.

-When I think of the Farseer, I think of absolute units in the lore such as Nobundo and Drek’Thar. This would be a two-handed tank spec similar to the Brewmaster.

-Runemasters use the elements like shamans do, only they do it through an atunement to the arcane, calling upon the power of ley lines and empowering runes. This could be a sweet monk spec as well since they are hand-to-hand fighters by lore. Their classification as a powerful mystic fits them potentially into the shaman category.

-Shadow Hunter / Witch Doctor. Not a tank spec, but let us not forget these two class fantasies which have yet to be fully realized. I would love for a loa / wild god priest spec to get that true troll witch doctor feel, where as the Shadow Hunter has always been more of a shaman archetype.

-Tidesage
-Geomancer
-Dark Shaman

Shaman used to be able to tank in Vanilla and I’ve missed it ever since they took it away for BC. It makes sense thematically, and it could be a 4th spec, like they did with druids, making each spec specialize in their specific element type.

i think a better name would be “Mountain”. Mountain Shaman. I think a fantasy of somewhat being a mountain would be cool, like a passive that Mountain Shamans always move 30% slower but cannot be knocked back at all or slowed.
