New Shadow Priest rune is for a spell we don't use? (Pain and Suffering)

Voicing my thoughts hear in hopes it will be heard by devs.

We do not use Mind Flay in our rotation at all because it does substantially less damage than Mind Spike.
All shadow priest mains are in shambles when we heard about Pain and Suffering. PLEASE make it so Mind Spike can refresh SW:P as well.

Even with twisted it just isnt worth it over mind spike even to just refresh. it might have some niche pvp use but unless its our only dps rune for that slot which it could be, prob wont be used. Would be interested to see if they can make flay worth it .

You aren’t in shambles… nice hyperbole…

new ranks of mind flay will likely change play style… who would of thought?

Except the part where the above comment* is entirely made up. The problem has nothing to do with ranks. The problem is the spell itself even at max rank, even at levels where you just got a new rank, etc- in EVERY situation it is unusably bad. Mind spike is infinitely better, literally always.

wow you should buy a lottery ticket with your amazing ability to predict the future and what else is coming… I will be back when spriests are mind flaying

Mind Flay is consistently a terrible spell throughout vanilla. The highest trainable rank of mind flay next phase still does less damage than what Mind Spike does now at 40. Unless they mega buff the spell or add even more runes for it, Mind Flay will not be used.

Mind Flay only good in pvp situationally (50% slow is massive, kiting melee while dots rot or grp pvp when no one has slow and you let team catch target, other niche uses etc).

Flay is not bad, just mind spike is just a lot better when you can freecast.

Still wouldn’t use Pain n Suffering in pvp though, Eye seems way too good for mere refresh of sw:p.

So yeah, kinda filler rune no one will use. Unless it reset all sw:p dots in a range for shared pain.

It’s sad that the spriests signature spell was that overshadowed, noone melt faces anymore
