I’m not, you’re misunderstanding entirely what I’m saying. I am telling you that I watch streamers who report everyone who annoys them for chat, even if the chat is “hi” or something innocuous. The claim that these reports don’t amount to anything is false. Sometimes otherwise normal speech gets caught up in these reports because the presumption is the report was made because the person who made it was upset about what was being posted. Sometimes, conversations between people that don’t involve the person reporting at all are reported simply because someone doesn’t like them. If both parties are OK with the conversation (including the person reporting - until they get angry about something unrelated) then that’s report abuse. It’s reporting for revenge. It hurts people who don’t deserve to be harmed. You can claim “it’s against the rules!” all you want, but these same people wouldn’t report the person if they weren’t angry at them for something that has nothing to do with chat.
Loud voices make for an incorrect assumption of large population. They’re not the same.
Sure. If you report a joke between friends and a third person reports it because they don’t like the person, the friend that made the joke will still be banned. It creates a situation where people don’t feel safe to talk in public spaces for fear hidden third parties will maliciously take action on things when they’re not otherwise involved in the conversation.
I know that. Mistakes happen. A lot of reports that don’t have any basis make it into the system, by your own admission. If any one of those is accidentally actioned, and that person doesn’t appeal, that person is gone forever for having done absolutely nothing wrong except making someone angry who decided to weaponize the report system against them.
The current system is worse. After your first action you’re perceived as “problematic” because your account is flagged due to the previous action. Once people make a mistake, they’re put on a fast track to be removed.
We’re not talking about other games. We’re talking about WoW. WoW was fine historically, and returning to those old policies would improve the social environment in the game substantially.
No thanks. A lot of people hang out there who take it upon themselves to “educate” everyone around them. I don’t know what motivates the behavior, but it’s a nasty echo chamber. Most posts I’ve seen over there are closer to organized harassment of OPs than help.
