New self-found mode coming to wow hardcore realms February 29

As per blizzard:

A new and challenging mode for WoW® Classic: Hardcore realms is on the horizon.

Gear up for the debut of Self-Found Mode, launching on February 29! This new mode will restrict players to using only the resources they find, loot, and craft as they fight their way to level 60. Do you have what it takes to make it on your own?

Cool! I’m less excited about it than I was before, but I’m sure I can muster up a character.

That’s cool. HC so far has been the most fun in recent times.
Personally I wish they’d add HC+ with rogue-like elements since I’m bad and can’t cut it lol
But maybe I could make it in SSF since there would be less incentive to do dumb (mostly social) stuff that gets me killed

Oh, you can still group and run dungeons It’s Self Found, not Solo Self Found :frowning:

Since no Solo prefix there, does that mean that the ONLY change is restricting in item trading? No auction house? The bots aren’t gonna like that…

I’d almost wish that they did something for PvP with hardcore instead, but that’s a minefield and a half.

True, so you can still be carried in the world as in dungeons, buy green items at vendor etc. It is still easy mode

SF is a welcome change for sure. I kind of wish they had the additional official option of no grouping at all until 60. I know people would harp on ability to NOT do a dungeon, but I just see it as that much more of a cool challenge.

That’s the first thing I wondered. People will get carried, not really true self found lol

Yeah, If I was to decide, much MORE options would be offered.

  • No mail and AH
  • No groups
  • No dungeons
  • No gear better than white
  • No pet
  • no weapon
  • no buying of weapon/gear only food/trade items
  • no repair
  • no proffs
  • no talent points
  • no FPs taken
  • no kills (but this would afaik only get you to around level 8)
  • no Quests
  • no Addons (thanks to Andreseeguar)
  • no large map (thanks to Andreseeguar)

Here I’ve just tken all additional challenges, I ever heard off - all as options. Feel free to add.

I think it would be a cool idea to allow characters access to more or all professions in a mode like this.

I would’ve preferred a SF server, not just a mode. I want to only bump into other players who are also bound to the SF restrictions.

No Repair would make it a very interesting game.

BUT it would have to allow trading if it’s no-repair.

it’d be basically EVE Online on the ground.

Those options were meant as pick’n’mix  not a bundle

Back before official HC servers were a thing, I made a proposal on BB to the addon devs to not allow any addons and no large world map (only mini-map), and create an achievement called “User your own brain.” It means you literally have no way of getting around Azeroth except from your short range mini-map and the road signs - no ez-mode Questie or anything.

Indeed many will.

A compromise for Blizzard would be to only allow SF players to group with other SF players. While not entirely, it would decrease carries/boosts a lot I think.

This is going to fail for several reasons

No fresh solo servers!

  1. Bots: they dont need to apply the debuff. They can still use AH. The items you need will be too hard to farm.

  2. dungeon locks: These need to be removed for self found players. We can’t sell stuff so no reason to be locked out

  3. carrys: people will just have max characters help them

We need fresh servers just for self found! And we need the daily dungeon lock out removed

There is nothing you need thats hard to farm. You can easily level up as SF or SSF just using quest items or even white items, and only selling items on vendors. Having a fresh server wont change this.

Also you state carry’s as a reason its going to fail, where carries are currently almost nonexistent on the current HC Servers as its simply not practical with the dungeon lock outs, yet you want to remove the dungeon lock so you can easily have dungeon carries and get power leveled in a dungeon?

Yeah I didn’t get the point of removing dungeon lockout either. Also mob tagging which is the primary boosting method on hardcore will still work even if it’s SSF not just SF.

Making it a fresh server would only delay mob tag boosting as the only way to remove it would be to change how tagging mobs and xp works.

no repair? sir you are a mad man :expressionless:

Not all are my suggestions, as I said I collected all sugesstions, I ever heard for additional challenges

Can SSF be selected without hardcore? Or can dead HC SSF characters transfer to a non-HC realm with SSF status?
