After the tuning, the desirous blood, prophetic twilight and freezing ice are doing over 9% overall and healing for a decent amount.

Only if you don’t have good rings already. My 415 socketed rings sim better than max level onyx with any combination of gems.

I just had it do 11.3% overall in a NO. I doubt your socketed 415 is worth near that much.

You are just making assumptions. Sim it, ask people in altered time. Its bad for frost mage and on par with 411 ring for fire. I have 421 rings but they sim worse than my 415s because they are not socketed.
Not to mention it doing 10% of your overall means you are not paying very well.
Why do people think they know everything without doing any research nowadays?

I did sim it and after putting prophetic, desirous and freezing, it sims 2.3k higher than my 411 non socketed crit/mast ring. Maybe it’s better for Arcane. And you’re right, I don’t play very well which makes it even better for me.

I played around with it and I am not finding its that exciting, but I do have 421 rings.
I agree the numbers on the sheet LOOKs good, but if you compare your overall damage, in a m+ run, my flat stats generally come out on top, i guess it might be worth it if your feeling the defensive aspect helps, i didn’t notice much of a difference.
I think they did a good job at balancing them out around the 418-421
range, But since you can craft 418, its kinda Meh.
Another consideration is how much crit you have and how often they proc, you can most certainly get some nice crit/procs into a magi window.

The desirous and prophetic combo will probably get nerfed and then it will be crap but until then, I will be enjoying it as it has been a noticeable dps increase for me. I’ve been running the storming over freezing lately and the spitefuls this week might be making it seem better than it really is. Although even on boss fights I have seen it hit 13%. It has been doing more dps than Arcane Missiles for me which is kinda nuts.

This new ring is Insane… on my Prot Warrior. But not on my Frost Mage.

I just don’t understand why it’s not good for Frost as the spec casts way more spells per minute than Arcane. I’m not doubting you but am I missing something? I’d like to know because I have been thinking about going Frost. Arcane has done permanent brain damage to me. I’ve also read that taking IF over RoP isn’t nearly as punishing for Frost which sounds delightful.
Frost needs to maintain 33ish crit, it can be a challenge to makeup for it if you lose a ring

its not just the crit… mastery is huge for frost too
I suspect they have nerfed the stones. I’m only getting 6-8% overall the last few days after consistently getting 10-14% prior and the sample size was huge. Like 20 m+ runs. This morning I hit a training dummy until I hit 20 million damage and the ring did 6.8%. The Humming Arcane is definitely outperforming the Freezing and Desirous now. They messed with them and said nothing about it. I plan on getting another dps stone and dropping the prophetic, desirous combo and see what happens.
So I got the freezing, flamelicked and humming now and did the same 20 mill test and the combo did 8.1% compared to the 6.8% for the prophetic, desirous, humming combo. Yeah the healing is gone but who cares. It was unsubstantial and mostly overhealing.
You’re overthinking this. A 2% difference is well within the margin of error and can easily be explained away due to a variance in proc rates not to mention all the other variables like your other spells crit-ing more and thus accounting for a larger percentage of your overall damage done. Also the better you perform, such as when you’re doing your rotation stationary at a dummy, the worse the ring will look.
Personally, I wouldn’t spare the ring another thought. Either use it or don’t depending on how heavily you rely on secondary stats. It will be obsolete in a month anyway.
All fair points. I got a 418 ring with a socket in the vault today but haven’t bothered running a sim yet. I don’t even know if I will keep playing as I am finding it harder to log in by the day. The game just isn’t doing it for me anymore and I doubt S2 will change that. Returning to DF as a Mage was challenging and entertaining at first but now I just find it boring and unrewarding.
It’s a dps gain for Arcane, but not fire or Frost.
