I’m not that great a player but I’m down to play with you and help you get adjusted. Add me on Primevil#1991 if you want. I got into rated PvP because of the appeal of the elite sets too so I can relate
I might not be able to play outside of the weekend though due to work
Id suggest watching streamers that play ret (savix sometimes streams, but other ret streamers are slipping my mind right now), id suggest some things like a blessing of sanctuary macro for your healer to get started.
The full set with exclusion of the cape is unlocked at 1800, but wont show in the mog window until you hit 2100 when you unlock the cape.
just have fun and keep learning, dont get tunnel vision and dont be afraid to hard swap targets, esp when you have wings up, and say a healer has no trinket and you also have a hoj. Awareness in arenas is key.
I’m not a good player by any stretch of the imagination, but I was able to get the plate and mail sets in 8.3.
If you don’t have a partner or you’re still learning, see if you can join a chill group or start one yourself instead of joining a group that’s explicitly focused on pushing rating. None of my partners were ever rude, and it wasn’t a big deal if things weren’t working out.
The Loot District helped me a lot with knowing what gear and talents I should choose. Get your gear as close to the average item level as you can - it wasn’t until I was around 10-15 levels below the average that I stopped losing to being totally outgeared, but I expect you’ll have to get closer as a DPS. I also looked at streamers to see what they did differently, and their commentary often did just as much to help me improve as written guides. The World of PVP subreddit (also a valuable resource) and The Loot District have lists of them.
I didn’t play a ret paladin myself, but I partnered with one on my resto shaman. The best thing he did for me was keep an eye on my health and run to me if I was starting to die, and I did the same for him. Try to keep your partner in your line of sight if possible.
Just keep at it. Look at my mediocre win rate with so many games played - if I can reach 1800, then so can you!
wowhead pvp guides are prob the best written guides out there for arena, just google ret/disc pvp guide and it should pop up. they’re written by multi r1/tourney players, although im not sure if theyve been updated for slands yet
the best ret streamer to learn from is pikachu from eu, he’s the most active ret streamer and his vods are free. twitch.tv/pika_pala
vanguards is really good too but you have to be subbed for his vods
not really sure who the most active disc streamers are. off the top of my head one i know are hydra, ticki, rapids, mehhx. mehh is the only one who requires sub i think
I did, I got all of my glad titles as ret. I only picked up Prot in the prepatch and it’s actually incredibly fun. I achieved a new PR for my paladin as prot, so I’m actually really good at it. The spec just clicks with me, not sure why.
