New Raid Ready Boost Worth It For

Hail, and well met, folks.

For a couple of solo and PvE only characters; Fury Warrior ILVL 342, and Prot Pally ILVL 297, is it worth buying the new lv 70 Raid ready boost with the ILVL 424 gear?

I don’t necessarily feel like I’m underperforming on quest/PvE content, but would there be a noticeable improvement do you think?

It’s not that I can’t afford the boost, it’s just a “is it worth it” thing.

When the new release drops, (which I’ve purchased and used the freebie boost on a Hunter), I plan to boost a Priest and Shaman… MIGHT want to boost my Druid too.

Thanks for your time and help.

I don’t like to level after the first time, so to me, boosts are worth it. The gear isn’t worth anything, since you can get better gear than that even in world content.

Hello, it is probably not worth it to use the boost for gear alone if you plan to boost another character from level 1. You can save the 60 dollars and boost any class you want to boost that is level 1, and get equivalent gear from normal dungeons, the auction house, or world quests on your new level 70. Whichever way saves you the most time. Ultimately, it is your boost and money so you should do what you like. Good luck!

no you can just do timerifts and superblooms and dreamsurges to get 424 ilvl gear.

once a week, for the superbloom quest, you get a piece of 450 gear.

also you can farm higher ilvl gear in heroic dungeons quite easily.

and timewalking is active right now, do that instead of heroics - much faster and drops the same ilvl.

I would recommend the boost for alts if you don’t want to repeat content and want to get straight into Season 3 endgame on your other classes. The gear is good enough to get you into the Emerald Dream or LFR, but you’ll want to replace it as quickly as possible. It doesn’t feel powerful, just adequate.

One warning to start with is you can’t use the boost on a character that’s already level 70.

Other than it depends on how you value your time.

If you’ve got time to spare I’d say level up through timewalking and then gear with the new dream zone and deam surge gear (lvl 415 upgradable).

If you don’t have time to spare but have some holiday cash burning a hole in your pocket then do a boost.

With how easy it is to gear up to 424 in the dream, I’m going to say no, it’s really not worth it.

Interesting.

I’m strictly a solo, casual player, who has WAY more real money than in game money… (so AH probably wouldn’t work, but I’ll check).

Can these other PvE routes mentioned be solo’d?

Things may have changed, but my Warrior for sure couldn’t solo dungeons/elites, (I’m admittedly not a very good player), and while my healers; Priest, Shaman, Druid, Pally can… it does take time, so I’ve never taken the Pally into dungeons, (Dragon Flight ones). Have dungeons gotten easier in the last 6 months or so? A solo setting perhaps. A crappy player setting maybe? LOL.

I am also gainfully employed and found the boost to be a preferable option. “Time is money, friend!”

The Emerald Dream is open world content that you can play solo, although you’ll still be cooperating with other players. First, you’ll want to pick up three weekly quests: “A Worthy Ally: Dream Wardens” from Keeper Amrymn,“Blooming Dreamseeds” from Talisa Whisperbloom both inside the village, and “The Superbloom,” from Clarelle next to Sprucecrown just outside the village. All of these quests reward a bag which usually includes at least one item of ilvl 441 or better. There is also a weekly to kill a world boss (you’ll see it on your map) that may reward you a 460. There are plenty of other opportunities for gear as good or better from questing and planting/watering seeds (particularly purple, but also blue), but the weeklies are the first things you want to do and you could gear up pretty quickly just by doing those.

The Dream Wardens rep quest is met from the rep token that drops from the Superbloom weekly, so just make sure you pick up that quest before you pop the token. The other weekly requires you to plant five seeds around Emerald Dream. You’ll get the seeds as drops from the Superbloom or other content, and it’s pretty easy to just fly around and either plant them in unused spots or contribute them to others that are already growing. There’s a planting spot at both the beginning and end of the Superbloom route, and you can usually knock out some planting just by tending to these.

The Superbloom occurs every hour on the hour. If your server isn’t busy, scheduling this close to Tuesday is a good idea because you want a big group. Meet at the tree and follow Sprucecrown around, following the instructions as presented. It’s quite easy, and I think it’s fun to participate in the free-for-all with other players. Be sure to tag the boss at the end, since he also drops loot, and you’ll probably get some gear from him, too. You can continue to do Superbloom even after you turn in the weekly, the boss will still drop gear and you’ll still get the smaller bags the event rewards along the way.

You will also receive Crests that can be used to upgrade your gear at the vendors back in the village. It only took me a few weeks of relatively casual “solo” playing before I’d replaced all but two items on my boosted toon with 450 or better gear. I never entered a dungeon.

I’m sure other people have touched on it, but the new Emerald Dream zone awards you with 415-421 gear just for completing the quest line, which takes a couple hours total. On top of that, Heroic dungeons (and TW) award 428 gear. So gearing up to the same raid ready ilvl is pretty simple, if not just a little bit time consuming.

I honestly liked it for the free 20 renown on the first ones since I barely did any WQing for rep. Gonna make getting my tameable dragons alot easier.

It’s more cost effective to buy 424 gear off the AH.

One option that’s probably cheaper than the boost, particularly if your characters are already at max level, is to just use a WoW token to get gold and then buy BoEs on the Auction House that are at ilvl 424 or that you have enough flightstones to upgrade to 424.

BoEs that drop from not only the Emerald Dream but also the previous patch zone are dropping at current season item levels, so anything that says “Wind Wolf” on it should be good for a hunter for example, but if “Skyless” is cheaper, thats fine too as long as it’s ilvl 415 or higher (if it’s less then it counts as a season 2 piece and cannot be upgraded)

my main is now 449 and i have not touched one dungeon this expansion also i only do LFR a few times a month so it is pretty easy to get the gear you want

You can get ~440 within an hour or two of hitting 70 by flying into lots of Dreamsurge orbs (use an Inky Black Potion to make it super easy!). The Whelpling Crest cap is now high enough that it’s possible to do it to get all of your gear, so can craft using Enchanted Whelp Crests. Use the Dreamsurge Coalescence to buy the gear to get the S2 4p tier from those slots by catalyzing them. Get a 450 trinket from weekly Time Rift. (and/or use a Spark for an Alchemist Stone). You get a free Enchanted Wyrm crest from the ED story, and can get another Renown 20 easily if it’s an alt, so use those to craft good Spark gear too.

424 is an utter waste to use a valuable boost on.

unless you been sleeping on DF, no, its not worth it.
if you have played like, Shadowlands or BfA, then maybe its worth it for the renown jump but its not like its a major factor unless your main goal is professions.

in most cases its better to level a character so you get an idea of how it works.

if you happened to have a 70 boost because you got The War Within, then i’d sit on that until you have a goal in mind. maybe you want to start a character on another server, opposite faction. start prepping a new main, then sure.

if you mean to just buy the raid ready boost, its only ever worth it if you lack time and only want to do end game raiding, or M+ imo. PVP is diff because the gear and stuff is mostly irrelevant as you would want to get pvp gear for that.

I was able to lvl and gear a Warrior alt in under 24 hours /played. i think it was sitting at around 444 ilvl with 4-6 hours total at max lvl. Granted, the time spent was highly targeted at high value returns. (just do the main events like super bloom. certain world quests and a more or less passively build up honor in War Mode grabbing supply crates. use any vendor options to fill in missing slots. there are a lot of vendors to work with. from world pvp gear (decent pve starting ilvl) to catch up venders at time rifts etc.

Time walking is also good use of time.

basically. only get it if you lack time. if anything. instead get a few wow tokens, the gold will be far more useful than the boost as you can get crafted gear, enchants, gems, consumables, xmog

Lol no. Go to the emerald dream and get your gear.

If you have gold save your money and buy the same exact gear you get from the boost off the AH you can get the same gear for probably 20-30k maybe more if you get trinkets and rings
