New race needs to tank, not because of tank shortage, but just because

They could add 10 new tank specs and it wouldn’t make a difference at all for the current tank problem that has existed since post legion. The problem with tanks is almost entirely due to the community and the sheer amount of responsibility we put on them to know every mob ability, every single route in every dungeon and raid, exactly which packs to pull and skip, judge how much they can do based off of initial impressions of the group’s usual lack of skill and ability etc…

read the title, not due to tank shortage

Your first reply to me was to a post about gnomes. Are you doing it on purpose or YOU actually forgot about the conversation?

please drop the vanilla topic and return to the thread’s main theme

What was it again, this one person thinks it’s about gnomes.

Hey, I did say previously that I support them adding other classes as playable for the Dracthyr. Not saying they shouldn’t be expanded at all, just the Evoker as a class I like as ranged only.

I definitely think they should add some classes to their list. I get the uniqueness of it and it seems cool, but it’ll be the same issue as Demon Hunters. Yes, yes, we know the lore and the reasons. But people want things that look and feel cool to be playable.

*Side note: I meant melee as in the role, not melee players.

no, not “just because”, not all classes tank and not every class needs to cover every base, learn to play more than one class.

Even then, demon hunter was a class, only druid has ever had access to all roles. What dracthyr is would be more akin to if blood elves or draenei had a role they absolutely couldn’t do, or more recently pandaren. Dracthyr being evoker only just means that someone that don’t like range or healing in general, is cut from a huge portion of what DF will offer at launch.

There’s a precedent for a new class not having a certain role. It’s the first an expansion released race is in that situation.

I read the changed title and the OPs idea is dumb, I was replying to other people talking about tank shortages.

Indeed!
I’d love to play a dracthyr, but as my guild has put it so elegantly
“Dude, you suck at casters, but you’re like an idiot savant at melee.”

It’s a shame that this race can’t tank also. My friend and I will both be trying the race. I prefer to heal and he prefers to tank when we play together… but instead of now going in as a healer/tank team, I suppose we will have to either do dps/dps or healer/dps.

I actually would prefer a Shaman to have a tank spec. But when it comes to new classes, I think this is good that it is something actually opposite of Demon Hunters, where DH had 1 tank spec + 1 melee dps spec, to Evoker that has 1 healing spec + 1 range dps spec.

Dracthyr (the race) still ought to be able to tank, unless they come up with some ‘physically unstable affront to nature’ lore reason for them to not be able to take a hit.

I had a similar question when Blizzard talked about the Evoker class in the deep dive. They specifically mentioned the new spell effect “prismatic” that utilizes all five magics then transforms mid-cast to the magic needed for the spell, such as their example turning into red magic for “pyre”. Seems weird to completely leave out the fifth and possibly most famous dragonflight, the Black, for no given reason as of yet. My other question was why is red magic used for the damage dealer specialization instead of the healer one when the Red Dragonflight, even by their own admission, are the guardians of all life? Seems like red and bronze should be switched.

Dragons cant tank because every dragon thats ever tried to tank a 40 man raid or a 5 man group dungeon inevitably gets spanked to oblivion. It makes sense that the new race is ranged Dps/ Healing.
Veteran Tanks will take advantage of the surge of ranged dps/healers and begin to lay down the pathing for mystic dungeons anyways

I just won $100,000 in the lottery.

/ sad sigh

If only it had been $101,000. Then I could have been happy. :frowning:

Thats what ya’ll sound like.

if your reason for something to be able to tank is ‘just because’ it honestly shouldn’t.

A frost mage becoming a tank using things like frost armor/frost shield/etc would honestly make more sense as we’ve never seen dragon powers used to protect against harm directly, only to harm or undo harm, but not mitigate/stop harm

solution already provided. Gotta read the op man. Add solutions to the post. Why is everybody talking about it being about whether or not we need another tank, as opposed to the original post asking for more ideas to better forge the idea into a cohesive whole.

That is part of it.

Thank you.

And paladins.

If you don’t like the idea, then maybe give feedback besides nonsense. If you can’t give ME feedback, then how do you ever expect things to get better? If you can’t be productive here, then how will anything ever get better or change? You are creating a stagnation of toxicity by posting uselss nonesense like this.
Maybe stay on topic, and be helpful…or just don’t post.

the only people using that logic, are the ones replying to something that has nothing to do with the topic. Maybe offer some genuine feedback? Do you have any ideas on how you could improve on the ideas presented in the first post?

okay make them a ranged tank… The Hold to charge mechanic would also be fun for tanking… like you see pick deeps coming but instead of casting “block” you just hold down your block spell.

I did give feedback, we don’t need new tank specs because of a MUCH larger issue with the tanking role in general, once we fix that then add more specs, and I called your opinion dumb because I’m an expert as I have a lot of them myself so don’t take it personally.
