“Things were quiet until VanCleef’s daughter, Vanessa, returned to lead the organization for a time. No one - Not even I - knew of her existence before then” Some master spy Shaw is.

Especially since he was the one who trained VanCleef. It’s also funny how the SI:7 went from a decently competent, well informed and connected organization in Classic (with several people working for them undercover all over Azeroth) to a complete joke over time.

(Although the same can also be said about the 7th Legion, which changed from an absolute badass elite unit in Northrend (with all NPCs of the 7th Legion actually having the “Elite”-status meaning they were able to destroy you easily) to cannon fodder.)

The detective quickly returned to Sentinel Hill to inform Gryan about Vanessa VanCleef. Upon telling Gryan about Vanessa the Brotherhood attacked and began to set the town on fire. Hope Saldean then revealed herself to be Vanessa VanCleef in disguise. Laine asked why Vanessa had the Furlbrows killed, she answered that they were the only ones who had seen her before the fall of her father. Gryan sent the detective to Stormwind to inform the king about the attack on Sentinel Hill.

So I guess speaking to medivh is something you can do? Shaw sends agents to do it and it doesn’t seem like a big deal, given what was stated under nightbane… might have some good advice…

Unless I’m getting the shade of medivh mixed up with an echo of medivh instead of the medivh we get at the end of return to karazahn??

Katazahns a weird place :man_shrugging:

where are legions 1-6 anyway

Really doesn’t tell us anything new. what a waste of time.

The 1st Legion is actually referenced ingame: It was the one who followed Arthas to Northrend during his hunt for Mal’ganis. They were later slaughtered and raised as undead. Falric, Marwyn and Luc Valonfort were probably all part of said legion.

Although we could also ask the question: Is there an 8th Legion? A 9th? 10th? The problem is we simply have absolutely no idea how the armies of both factions are actually organized. We also have no idea how large a “Legion” is actually supposed to be. 6000 soldiers similar to the Roman one? More akin to a brigade? A division? Maybe even corps sized? Considering that the 7th Legion was capable of fighting in both Kul Tiras and Zuldazar anything below a corps size unit seems unreasonable.

He is a spy, not an omnipotent god. The fact is, it took shamanistic magic for the player to even find out about her.

SI:7 has stopped several conspiracies against Stormwind, helped the player in taking out the Twilight’s Hammer in Twilight’s Highland, managed to help us in Pandaria proper. Help Varian infiltrate and later defeat Moira. Not to mention was able to get the Sythe of Elune from the Dark Riders.

Sure, the SI:7 have had failures, they have also had successes. Do we really want to talk about all the time the various leaders utterly failed a mission/an action or something and needed the player to solve their problems?

Well, maybe Shaw should retire then and let Vanessa head SI:7 seeing as she managed to hide her existence from the master of spies himself.

  1. Why would Vanessa, a person who wants to destroy Stormwind, help Stormwind? 2. Vanessa has her own list of failures, namely trying to rebuild the Defias. It took less then a week to destroy her master plan she spent her entire youth concocting.

You ever heard of a hyperbole?

So, Shaw, a master spy and assassin, never once had any intel given to him by any of his numerous spies scattered around Azeroth about someone trying to potentially resurrect the Defias brotherhood? He never knew Vancleef had a daughter despite being friends since they were kids? Her plan may have fallen apart the instant she was discovered but that does not take away from the fact she managed to dupe Shaw who is supposed to be the guy who knows the plan before the enemy even knows it. That is his job as leader of SI:7.

Yes, but that wasnt a good one.

Because until Cata itself she was not actively restarting the Defias, hence why all the bosses for the Deadmines were recent recruits. At best she was sending non-descript bandits to cause chaos.

Vanessa was clearly young. She couldnt be much older than Anduin. For all we know she was born AFTER Vancleef went rogue. Also as noted by various NPCs Vancleef was always good at hiding secrets.

Again, your asking for some super omniscient that even spies like James Bond do not have. Not even the best spies can know ever little detail or prevent every problem from arising!

Still counts.

Better than Shaw at keeping secrets? Shaw probably knows more about a person than they know about themselves and he would have kept a close eye on Vancleef and all his dealings after he went rogue.

I never said they should, however, Shaw should have at least heard some rumblings of a potential Defias resurrection considering the connections he has. Something would have come down the grapevine at some point and one of his spies would have picked up on it and send word back to Shaw for him to look into.

There lies such potential for an internal uprising in the Alliance. I mean I’ve had enough of Horde issues.

Nah, you should at least know the family members of your person of interest has. Vancleef obvious had a partner that he got pregnant at some point. That Edwin gave took interest in the girl, should have been something that Shaw’s contacts noticed. Like Udoeak said, Shaw is a bad spy. Either his own skills are lacking, or the people he employs are bad, which in turn, makes him a bad spy master.

Or Edwin is a 200 IQ master
