New Player....Hi ...Go easy on me i have questions?

Hello Im A new player and i been trying to get into WoW for the longest i mostly play Final Fantasy XIV but i need a break from that game and want to try something new and i pick this one of course but i have a few questions because its a little confusing from the start

How Do I Fine A Guild?
playing this game is fun but it already feels a bit lonely with nobody in chat so maybe i can chat with people in my guild while questing

Is Questing The Main Way To Level Up?
i see WoW is mostly about questing from my POV but what to know is this the main way to level up if so then no problem

Am I Doing The Right Quest?
So a Final Fantasy XIV player there a thing call main scenario quest (or MSQ) which i the main story line quest and i dont know if there a thing like that on this game … what it seems like from my POV there are quest you suppose to complete in like an area / region if that make sense

Anything Important i should know that can help me out?
gimme all the info that can help me please

If you’re new to WoW then wait until the reset which is on Tuesday because there is a new update that will make the levelling experience much better.

What, you’re a police officer now? :face_with_raised_eyebrow: :police_car: /j

But to seriously answer your question here, you can ask around in chat for an invite to a guild you wanted to be in, or you can make a friend and ask them to be invited in their guild.

Well, yes, it is a the main way to level up. You do have to occasionally keep an eye out for treasures, rares, might do some dungeons, maybe PvP or Pet battles too if your interested. Those give XP.

That depends, are you talking about doing the main zone story, or the expansion’s overall questline?

Well when the pre-patch hits, any new players will have to start in Exile’s reach (which is a new zone for new players), and have to go though BFA to catch you up to speed on the story. from 10 - 50. Once you completed BFA, you will be given the choice to play in the other 7 seven expansions to level though 10 - 50 on your second character, as well picking the race’s starting zone instead of exile’s reach.

The level cap is squished to 60. So 1-120 is now 1-50. 5 - 60 are the new levels.

Pick a server that is medium or high. And avoid the max and new player servers, though ultimately that’s down to your choice.

Take your time to read the quest text, because wow does have a very detailed lore, and it provides you a bit of context on why your killing stuff and such.

While this one is more in domain of your choice, don’t be afraid about using addons if you don’t know what to do, some of them add quality of life improvements to the UI and others provide you information, like where to exactly go, what’s the best route to take, and a somewhat important, monitoring your performance like your DPS, or Damage per second.

And don’t buy or use level boosts immediately until your somewhat familiar with the game.

whats the difference and im trying to do quests that like only focus on the main story of WoW

I’ve played FFXIV consistently so I may be able to help you out. There’s nothing equivalent to the MSQ in WoW, so you can basically go to any zone within your level range and complete the storylines how you see fit. The only questlines that are an exception are from reputations at max level-- so don’t worry about those right now.

Questing/dungeons/battlegrounds, they’re all a viable source of leveling especially now with the 100% xp buff. Play your way and have fun, but if you want the most consistent xp then I’d mix dungeons and quests!

WoWhead/IcyVeins tend to be good websites to look at for information about the game. Check them out!

Lastly, if you’ve got any question then you can ask experienced players in-game about whatever you need with the new player chat they’re adding tuesday with the pre-patch. Leveling will also be far quicker and more flexible come tuesday.

The expansion’s overall questline is on the top of the quest log (like BFA’s campagin for example.). That is the main storyline.

I hate to piggyback on OP’s topic but is there a equivalent to casual/midcore content if I like the 24 man raids or extreme trials in FF? I don’t mind some hard stuff but nothing like savage lol.

Well WoW tends to go by zones but the overall story tends to lead up to a raid. The whole expansion is basically your MSQ experience and patches just add a new raid or focus on the story.

Welcome to WOW, Find yourself a nice guild that you feel comfortable in by using the guild finder under the guild & communities on your lower bars on the right of your screen below where your bags are, a good guild will help you along your way and get your started in your adventures. Good luck on your adventures!

LFR and Mythic+ might be the closest to that, to be honest. M+ scales in difficulty but generally isn’t too hard until you go over 10. If LFR is easy for you, then Normal and maybe Heroic raiding would be the sweet spot. I’d actually compare the raids in WoW to the Alliance Raids of FFXIV in terms of design, not difficulty however.

Dungeons have normal, heroic, mythic, and mythic + modes. Raids have LFR which is like doing the story version in FFXIV but even easier, normal, heroic and mythic which is a 20 person only group for raiding.

People will spam guild invites so do not go by that, ask around or look for a guild that is actually advertising.

First off welcome to wow.

Second if you do dungeons please have a thick skin because a lot of lfg dungeons are not new player friendly. Most people have been playing for years and expect everyone else they run into have as well. Some groups are almost toxic to new players.

Find a guild and try to run with them and you will have a much better experience.

Out of curiosity, why do you recommend a new player avoid the new player servers?

thank you so much my last question is how i unlock more dungeons i think i only have like 3 unlock

More unlock as you level up.

Unlike FFXIV you don’t need to do questlines to unlock them. Just level up and more will come into your level range, allowing you to access them. When pre-patch hits you’ll get a larger selection at any level above 10 though.

https://www.wowhead.com/dungeon-item-level-requirements-guide Until then here’s a current guide for what level you need to be to queue for them.

Their pretty much a low pop server. I also heard on the grapevine there is no economy on there and no trade chat.

High or med pop servers will increase the amount of options to pick in terms of guilds, a thriving economy and such.

This might sound crazy, but honestly, wait until Tuesday and start over. It’ll be a much better experience from the ground up.

As for a guild, you can say you’re looking for one in any major city’s trade chat, or you can use /j and search for one.

Applying to one generally doesn’t get noticed, it’s not handled very well mechanically, but you can /whisper any member from the guild, and you can find out who’s online by doing a “/who [guild name]”

Note, the game is quite inactive right now, as a lot of people have stepped away waiting for the patch. Ironically, I started playing FFXIV with my guild. lol

On the patch coming this Tuesday, a new feature marking the difference between Story quests and Side quests will be implemented. As well as the level squish that is going to drastically change how leveling works and how quickly you get it done.
