New player!

Hello guys, im pretty new and unexperienced to the game, what would be a better class for me ? Arms warrior or marksman hunter or ret palladin? From a purely 2v2 -3v3 arena point of view ?

I think you might get a better response if you posted this in the PVP - Arena forums. They may want a bit more information in regard to what you end goals are.

So when you make a post there, be sure to include what it is you are aiming for.

  • Do you like range classes? Or melee?
  • Are you looking for something with high DPS and great survivability?
  • Are you looking for something that pairs well with a specific class?
  • Etc…

Otherwise it may be a bit too broad and vague and be difficult to help.

Of those 3, warriors are probably the best.

However it is probably the highest learning curve of the 3, and the least forgiving if you make a small mistake.

Arms warrior will always be viable in PvP. The other two have a history of going whole expansions as C/D/F tier in PvP.

Of those three, I feel like Ret will be the most fun and forgiving. Immunities, good self healing, high burst, good single target stun. Arms War is great but it’s a lot to learn right out of the gate, and IIRC Marks Hunter can feel lackluster in arenas. Maybe that’s totally unfair to Marks in Slands though.

All depends on what you enjoy. That’s just my $.02.

For my part, I would say do not pick up Paladin if your focus is PvP. Warriors actually have a hard counter to Paladins major immunity and Paladins damage spec is good, but has very limited mobility, so unless you are going to play a comp with a mage or a hunter who you will be peeling for, I would bet you would get frustrated being so limited.

I have no experience with Hunters and limited experience with Warriors, so take this next part with a grain of salt. I really love the Warrior class thematically and capability wise. I know healing is much more limited compared to Paladin, but Mortal Strike is Arms signature ability and it reduces healing effects by 50%, so in direct combat, a Paladin’s ability to outlast you is severely hampered and most of their healing comes as a sacrifice of dps, either in the form of HP or gcd. Warriors can now make a similar survivability for damage trade with ignore pain and have other major defensive cds. If talented into second wind, arms has great healing ability if you can make space, which will not be a problem against most other melee. Fury self healing is pretty good too, with 3% health regenerated every 4.5 seconds via Bloodthirst and access to more or less the same mobility and cc pool.

Hunters always seemed like a mixed bag to me. You will have to go ask for a veteran’s opinion, but my experience with Hunters in arenas was that they have a high skill ceiling. I think that is true in general for all classes, but some of hunters major cc is Area of Effect based and requires skilled deployment.

If you want a great class for PvP, I would actually recommend Rogues. They have a ton of cc, utility, and good damage + poisons. Unless you hate stealth, they are worth checking out. All things considered, go with your gut/heart when it comes to picking a class. Flavor of the month changes all the time, but if you find something you really enjoy, that will help carry you through any rough patches. Everything is ultimately viable, but there are obviously classes that are better in certain scenarios than others.
