Brand new to game and decided on Druid after doing almost every spec’s Class Trial.
I can be tank, Melee, Ranged and healer all in one. but I am a little confused on how they are interchangeable to be able to play based on gear. Does the gear that drops throughout the game fit all 4 specs with the right stats and stuff like that?
Also… do people that play Druid switch between all 4 specs or is it usually like the Feral and Bear are best for sharing items and Resto and Balance are best for sharing their items? I have done a lot of reading and am about to start my adventure into WoW, so just curious on all of this and what current druids do? Or, maybe most stick with one spec only…
This may be a dumb question since I am new but I just am unsure how Armor and Specs work. Thanks all.

Most gear will swap it’s main stat (Agi, Int, and Str) to match your current spec. So, any gear that does this stat swap will be adequate for any spec. Secondary stats won’t change, but they aren’t as important generally as main stat. In theory, you should be able to use all secondary stats in each spec, but the priority on which are best will vary. What that means is that one set of gear will be okay, but when you get to max level and start optimizing, you may find you need different gear for different specs. While leveling, secondary stat priority doesn’t really matter at all.
Weapons are different between casters and melee specs. (Tank specs use melee weapons and healing specs use caster weapons.) Caster weapons will do a lot less damage if you try and hit stuff with them and melee weapons won’t have the huge Int budgeted to caster weapons. So you’ll need at least 2 weapons to play all the druid specs.
Trinkets are another piece of gear that can be spec specific. There are some generic ones that will work for all specs, and some that will be role or spec specific.
This really comes down to a personal choice. Some people really like one spec of a class and some people get bored if they aren’t mixing it up. Generally, healing specs aren’t that much fun to quest in so it’s pretty common for healers to have a dps spec for content out in the world. (And often the spec that needs the fewest gear changes when such an option exists.) But there are plenty of people who level in healing specs. Tank specs tend to be slow for questing, but they are very safe.

This is a lot of data. Thank you very much. I get the gist of what you are saying. It will make more sense once I get there I am sure.
I feel like I am a “one spec man” at heart.
Hi Xout I am a newbie too (started today) but I played a game that kinda simulated a similar world.
With Druid most of the gear is interchangeable but items such as Trinkets and weapons might be suited just for one spec (a tank trinket for bear/int trinkets for restoration druid and agi trinket for feral).
There is a small trick you can do - you can join epic battleground PvP and buy the trinkets from there - they tend to be usable by multiple specs + the trinkets from alchemy ‘alchemists stone’ can also be useful. If you grab these to begin with it gives you the flexibility to swap across to others later on. Then as you get the spec specific drops.
Yes there are ‘stat optimisation’ things you can do to make certain specs better - Feral druid loves critical strike because critical hits smooth out the spender rotation/bear likes versatility because it makes them more tanky/Boomkin likes mastery and vers or haste and mastery depending on your covenant but I don’t think this is really that important for the vast majority of content you’ll be doing when you’re starting out.
