Maybe a dumb question! For a new player purchasing the game, if you prepurchase TWW can you play dragonflight up until the release? Or would you have to buy dragonflight and also purchase TWW to play current content?

I believe if you pre-purchase TWW, it will grant you access to everything from DF and before.

Per the store page, purchasing TWW gives immediate access to Dragonflight. It’s more of a formality for early purchasers than anything, since the previous expansion gets rolled into the “free with subscription” package with the next expansion’s pre-patch anyway.
