Should we have a new player program? Where older players help newer players With the game.
Something … liiiiike
Needs to put in incentive for players to help. Unless there already is ?
Why does there need to be an incentive when players already do it for free?
That’s not the help truly new players need from someone helping them
I think they should actually have an employee answering questions of truly new players prior to reaching the current expansion, and “volunteers” (who currently are chosen by years played and impressive achievements and progress rather than recent experience with leveling) should be there for new players who are ambitious enough to need expert help.
If the employees are referring players to the community for answers then they can’t have more answers than the community
I forgot they had a mentor system lmao.
Obviously the employee should be trained.
I think experience with recent leveling would be far more helpful than years of elite success.
But the requirements do not include anything that would preclude an elite player who has never leveled an alt in the past 15 years from holding that position.
A level 10 is going to ask, “Don’t I need to do this now? Why can’t I? How do I do that?” Years of being a glad aren’t going to give the answer.
That would be a BOAT LOAD of “training” An example is you have the Loremaster achievement, so you have knowledge of “gotcha’s” with quests, how long do you think it would take to train an employee on all the little nuances of all the quests you’ve done? And then you have 18k cheeves, how long to train them on the tricky cheeves that have dumb requirements?
All the tiny little things you are familiar with are what makes players superior mentors to the game than an employee. Employees don’t have to play the game, they don’t know it like a regular long time player knows it.
Now I want to be a mentor…sorta. Really I just want to get invited to a party, party sync with the new player, meet up and mash things they can’t while rezzing them from time to time until they get the hang of things.
Maybe fly them around if they can’t fly. Not overwhelm them with tidbits and side bars but help them see mechanics at a friendly pace.
It would be nice to have people mentoring have access to any lvl dungeon lfg. Even with the caveat that it would be party synced and without rewards. I’d definitely queue up for assistance runs and tank for new players for free.
A lot of these quests and achievements are changed. And why would be a level 30 be asking about those things?
Do you really remember every nuance of every quest you have done in the game only once many years ago?
What is needed is to facilitate keeping someone in the game until they reach the current expansion. An employee will have access to wowhead and other outside sources, which a new player may not be comfortable using yet.
No one is familiar with 100% of the game. An elite who has never had an alt isn’t going to be able to help some new player with a question about current leveling from their own experiences, because they have none.
No one would know that better than players
Because the spectrum of interest any player can have is wide.
As a collector of everything and doer of all things there is no “only once many years ago”
If this is your desire then skip the leveling, yeet them to max and tell Blizz to make a training scenario
So will a player, on top of their own personal experience playing the game.
But I’m willing to bet players know a greater percentage of the game than any random employee.
You keep saying this, no one says it has to be “an elite” player. The players you’re mentioning in your hypothetical obviously are poor candidates, those aren’t the people I’m talking about.
It’s a really bad implementation. It’s character-specific for mundane things like “# of quests completed” and “character level” despite those achievements proving basically nothing while also being easily visible on an account level even while on alts.
It basically says anyone that might want to participate in the mentor program can’t play on an alt. Which is obviously a very popular thing for people to do in WoW, especially in the latter half of any given patch.
