New player perspective

New players have amnesia and forget they’re the champion that slew illidan/arthas/deathwing/etc.

But everyone still remembers them as the champion.

… and what “new players” are you associating with amnesia?

Choose your words carefully, bub.

players who are new or coming back after a long break. That will explaint hem being called hero/champion and such when they do dragonfligt

Players who are coming back or taking a long break have absolutely no relation to them having amnesia.

There is something called “burnout”. And I myself am burned out, therefore I’m not currently playing at the moment.

That certainly doesn’t mean I have amnesia.

their character has amnesia which is why they get called champion cuz their character did those things lore wise but forgot

No… no they don’t.

You are taking this way too seriously.

thats what I am proposing for new players. an easy introductory quest or part of the exile reach where they’re a hero who washes up on shore with amnesia and everyone calls them champion but they don’t remember why. this could encourage curiosity int he player and doing old content to “recover” those memories.

There is a significant difference between a state of confusion and amnesia.

State of confusion: “Why are they calling me champion?”

Amnesia: “I’m what? Who? Who are you and who am I? WHERE am I?”

Amnesia suggests that, no matter how well you answer, they won’t get it.

Confusion is just a part of a learning experience. An empty vessel waiting to be informed.

Yes, a new player - or one that just hasn’t done certain expansions, or content within - is frequently spoken to by NPC’s they are unfamiliar with, who refer to them as friends or champions. In fact, they are often “reminded” of things they have no idea about.

There is no provision for not reminding someone who has not done some old content about things he would only remember if he had in fact done it.

“The Black Prince Returns”, a quest in BfA which leaves a new player mystified about who the Black Prince is and why they should know about him.

that’s not how amnesia works in real life.

You’re actually right. Allow me to clarify a little bit:

One is easier to CURE rather than the other.

For a state of confusion, it only takes a few answers.

Amnesia however takes a certain memory within the individual to recover.

Once the memory is sound and correct, they will finally get it and more. But getting to said memory is extremely, EXTREMELY specific.

That’s very deep.

I…have nothing further add to its deepness.

Not necessarily. I know a guy who calls everybody “champ.”

I want the new amnesia where you know more things like new languages, complex math, flying a plane. It’s 2025 everything amazing now just like we all thought when we were 8

I like your idea. It makes it where the wow dev team can still make a story where you (the champion) did everything, but a new player is just unable to recall it.

New players don’t know about my 1000 weakauras

“Champion” is so much more polite than “murder hobo merc”

(To fair, even as a veteran character, I didn’t actually kill any of those raid bosses you speak of, I just relived it like a lorewalker story, imagining myself soloing entire armies of trash and one-shotting legendary foes while building a large wardrobe of cosplay replicas)

What is this supposed to mean?

His suggestion is if the wow story is going to continue as your character being this champion that did all this great stuff, then it doesn’t make a lot of sense for a new player. So, something at the beginning of a new character saying you are the champion, but you seem to have forgotten all the stuff you did would make narrative sense.

Aka your character woke up with amnesia, and everyone is insisting you are a great hero.

I kind of like this from a storytelling point of view.
